this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Can this man be salvaged and is Payton/Rex the men to do it? I just remember him as a phenomenal 3-4 type at LSU....

Sources: Pot reason Texans cut 3
Houston Texans cut Sam Montgomery, Cierre Wood, Willie Jefferson - ESPN pee in a cup and put it to rest. hell yeah if they can do it go for it. i always liked him and now the price would be right after all the crap before the draft. kids got talent. maybe short on common sense but he can play ball |

Re: Sam Montgomery?
I would pass on him. I don't like defensive players munching on Cheetos on the sideline.

Re: Sam Montgomery?
Not right now. Taking on a "head case" player requires off season meetings, full training camp, bonding him to the team and individual players, it requires commitment, mentoring, coaches and players to keep an eye on him....and ain't nobody got time for dat, right now. A guy like that, you have to bring him in and really ingrain the culture of the Saints into him, and make him realize that the Saints are not like any of his previous teams or employers, everybody here wants to be here, and he cannot goof around and screw it up. You can't just trust or expect a guy like him to jump in at midseason and guarantee he'll fly right.
The Saints have been known to take risks, but only smart ones. And they use an off season to get them on board. Anthony Hargrove was a really good example of this.... I think Payton is more incline to guys who make bad choices in friends, or are young and have bad judgement. But guys who toke, that's a work ethic problem and I can't remember ever having any "weed" players like that on a Payton roster. There was Donte Stallworth but he was gone pretty quick, as soon as Payton got here. |
