A couple of Brees' single season records could fall this season

2. Completion percentage
Current record: Drew Brees, 71.2 percent (2011)
Challenger: Philip Rivers, 73.9 percent

As remarkable as Peyton Manning has been (and his current completion percentage, 71.6, is a notch above Brees’ mark), Rivers has him beat in this category.

Making Rivers’ place atop the chart more impressive is that he opened the season with a 14-of-29 outing. That’s 48.2 percent, hardly foretelling of the success to come. Since then, he’s topped 70 percent in all but one Chargers game and soared past the 80 percent barrier three times, including a 22-of-26 (84.6 percent) performance last Sunday.

3. Passing yards
Current record: Drew Brees, 5,476 (2011)
Challenger: Peyton Manning, 2,565

So … Brees had a pretty good 2011. Manning, as things stand right now, could have an even better 2013.

Manning’s on pace to take down a number of records — yards, passing touchdowns, completions, QB rating. This one might be the most iconic record of the bunch, even though it was erased and rewritten twice during the 2011 season. Tom Brady, with 5,235 yards that year, also passed Dan Marino’s mark of 5,084.

During his team’s 6-1 start, Manning averaged 366.4 yards per game. Stretched out over the full 16-game slate, that would be 5,862 yards, meaning that Manning has a little cushion when compared to Brees’ pace.

I never get why everyone says who cares. A record (a positive one) by a Saint is just as awesome as a Super Bowl.

Because Drew goes to the HOF regardless and I'm sure that Drew himself would trade them all for another SB ring...

Whilst there is no great reason to hold these records, it is pretty cool, let's at least admit that. I would be proud for a Saint to hold every single-season record in every category but it won't happen.

What I would say though is that posting 'Who Cares?' is a bit unfair on the original thread that was nothing more than bringing it to your attention, so maybe show a little respect for the poster?

And finally, let's not forget that if Manning doesn't need to play in Game 15 or Game 16, he may not be played just to pick up a record at the risk of an injury and not being fully efficient in the post-season. Just saying.

Win us another Super Bowl, Drew...

Or, get off that fat paycheck.

And if we play the Broncos in the Super Bowl and (God Forbid) lose...
walk directly to the locker room, like that classless m'f'r Peyton Manning did when you handed him his azz in 2010.

Just a couple thoughts... I don't know...

- I like stats/records to a point, they let you know who you are, where you been, give you something to shoot for. Those threads where you guys post up Brees' records are unbelievable in the number that he holds. Those record's will put him in the HOF, a SB ring helps.

- SuperBowl QB's not in the HOF: Ken Stabler, Jim Plunkett, Joe Theisman, Jim MacMahon, Phil Simms, Doug Williams, Jeff Hostetler, Mark Rypien, Brett Farve (not eligible), Kurt Warner (not eligible).

- Brady, Brees, Manning, Marino ... pretty good comparison for Rivers to be elevated to honorable mention in that group ... keep it up for a few more seasons, Phil, and you just might crack that 'elite' ranking ... of course, having a ring would help, .
