Tom Benson
I want to give our Owner Mr. Benson credit for being exactly what he is: The Team Owner. He doesn't plaster himself all over the tv, he doesn't dominate the airwaves and he doesn't make rash decisions. He allows the people he hired the space to do what he hired them for. Plus he realized that The whole Bountygate was a bunch of BS and that The NFL still has yet to show that The Saints didn't do anything wrong. Glad we got a good one. Can't wait to see the return of The Boogie.

Re: Tom Benson
I agree wholeheartedly, I do however wish he would have been a little more involved with his employee Roger Goodell during Bounty Gate.

Historically, the more press the owner gets the worse the record.

Re: Tom Benson
I agree, he is nothing like Jerry & Arthur who have to get their mugs in front of the camera.

Re: Tom Benson
Benson is a smart owner... Unlike Jerry he knows not to fix what isn't broken, he knows that just because you own something it doesn't mean you know how to build it or work on it.
He is not a control freak. |

Maybe it's just because now winning is expected instead of a great surprise. Whatever it is, glad we have him. Jerry would be Horrible. |

Re: Tom Benson
I have said this before, in other threads, but I believe that the Hurricane Katrina experience really truly changed Tom Benson; he is different now than he was before. Yes, he talked about relocating the team in the aftermath, but once that quieted down, I think the process of rebuilding, of buying into the rebirth of the city, and realizing what the Saints meant to the people here, I think it changed Mr. Benson. Since Katrina, he has been running the organization like a real class act, with integrity and poise, instead of a used car salesman huckster type mentality.
I know for a fact that his organization's charitable giving to local causes and to local charity organizations, his and Rita's and Grace's involvement in the community etc at the donation and charitable giving level has increased in the years since Katrina. As the team's financial success has increased, so has his his charitable giving. You really can't ask for more than that from a bazillionaire sports owner, his organization is profitable but also tied in to the community in some pretty excellent ways. |
