Blank gives Dimitroff, Smith a vote of confidence after blowout
Blank gives Dimitroff, Smith a vote of confidence after blowout | Atlanta Falcons | www.ajc.com Really? LMAO The 41 points allowed were the most given up by the Falcons since they yielded 45 to the Saints in 2011.

Interesting how much confidence failure inspires in management.

Re: Saints vs Falcons Pregame (Thursday Night Game)
REPORT CARD: Falcons grades are 'wretched'
GAME BALL: We’re giving out a journalism game ball for this one to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution columnist and neighbor Mark Bradley for encouraging Arthur Blank to address this mess and for coming up with the one word to describe it all, “Wretched.” D – Quarterbacks: Matt Ryan completed 19 of 36 passes for 254 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. He finished with a passer rating of 70.8. Dominique Davis made his NFL debut and completed 5 of 7 passes for 34 yards and had a passer rating of 81.8. He left the game after taking a low hit. In the locker room afterwards, he said that he was fine. Ryan had the offense on the move early, until Gerald McCoy collapsed the line and started having a party in the backfield. Hard to blame Ryan for the pick-six as his arm was hit on the play. C– Running backs: Steven Jackson rushed 11 times for 41 yards. Antone Smith came in at garbage time and put up some numbers. He had two rushes for 88 yards to make the rushing stats look respectable. The team had 20 rushes for 152 (mostly empty) yards. Perhaps Smith gets some more action down the stretch as the Falcons will have to move away from their pass-happy offense because they can’t hold a pocket and teams are ready for all the screens and draws. On one draw to Jacquizz Rodgers, a Tampa Bay defender almost took the handoff. They’ll have to run the ball to keep the defense off the field and because they can’t pass block. “Double-wing, 38 Power Sweep, on 2! Let’s go!” Ryan might be saying down the stretch. D — Wide receivers/Tight ends: Too many penalties and dropped passes here. Harry Douglas did a nice job of padding his stats with that 80-yard touchdown run. He caught six passes for 134 yards. Gonzalez had six catches for 51 yards. White was targeted nine times and caught just three of the passes, one for a touchdown. F-minus — Offensive Line: The Falcons moved center Peter Konz to right guard and started Joe Hawley at center against Tampa Bay. The moved didn’t work out so well as Tampa Bay defensive tackle Gerald McCoy had three sacks over Konz, who was replaced by Garrett Reynolds in the game. The Falcons offensive line has struggled with pass protection all season. “Right now, it’s really not about me,” Konz said. “It’s about the team and how we can all move forward.” Hawley started some during the 2010 season, but has been a reserve this season. He’s played some as the jumbo tight end. The coaches made the switch in practice last week. Look for the juggling to continue. Sean Locklear was signed recently and could see some action soon. F -- Defensive line: Osi Umenyiora registered two sacks, but the unit was pushed around in the run game. They couldn’t get off blocks as Barry Sanders, opps, I mean Bobby Rainey, rushed for 163 yards. It was just a downright poor showing as they didn’t rush the passer and got blocked in the run game. The Bucs averaged 4.9 per carry and had two rushing touchdowns, including Rainer’s 43-yard cruise through the defense. read more
