Brees' Downfield Passing vs Seattle Pass Defense

Drew Brees has been one of the best QBs at hitting long pass plays downfield this season. Drew has 45 passes of 20+ yards, only 2 behind the NFL lead, and 11 passes of 40+ yards, 1 behind the NFL lead.

The Seattle defense has been the stingiest at giving up big plays in the passing game, allowing on 22 passes for 20+ yards and 2 passes for 40+ yards.

Will be interesting to see how we attack them. We dinked and dunked vs Chicago and only took a couple of long shots against them (one of which should have been a Meachem TD save for pass interference they didn't call), but it worked to the tune of 26 points and a comfortable 18 point lead with 3 minutes to go in the game.

What say you?

It comes down to 2 factors:

1) enough time to pass
2) Saints WR's NOT dropping the ball.

The muffs, flubbs, blunders, drops etc. must end or making it to the playoffs is only an extra couple games.

Re: Brees' Downfield Passing vs Seattle Pass Defense

With the Seahawks now having to play their 4th and 5th best corners for much of the game, would it not be prudent for us to play a lot of 3 and 4 WR sets? Now you're forcing them to play dime coverage and exploit some mismatches we are going to like a lot.

My initial thoughts were to be very balanced and run close to a 50/50 percentage. But I think now Payton is licking his chops and will have Brees throw the ball at least 45 times.

I sure glad Mitchell is blasting out a bunch of crap about Brees being soft! That will be great message to post in the Saints locker room. The Saints will show who is soft and who owns the NFC next Monday night!!! Mitchell keep blasting Drew, that is really smart!!!

We could still be effective with running out of spread sets with Sproles or PT. They have to be respected in the run or the pass. Ingram may have to take a back seat in this one.

i personally would like steady, doses of PT and Ingram with just a smattering of Sproles. Running against this team seams to work fairly well…should open up a lot of play-action. Sherman is one of the best, period, but he is known to be a gambler at times.

Re: Brees' Downfield Passing vs Seattle Pass Defense

The Seafarts are most likely expecting us to be pass happy because of their beat up secondary which is all the more reason why I think we should run, run, and run some more-even on 3rd and whatever. Also, alot of screen passing added to that would be nice. But when it comes down to it,Sean will have a nice little game plan in place. I have a feeling he's gonna treat this one like a playoff game
