Yes, even last year when they were the worst defense in the league, they still had plenty of talent. Lofton/Hawthorne were great signings, they didn't suddenly become bad players. Galette had always shown a ton of talent as a pass rusher, Hicks and Jordan were flashing big-time potential, etc.

You could point to Vaccaro and Lewis in the secondary as the players that put them over the top and really made it solid, but I would argue that even without those guys this would still be a pretty decent group.

Blows my mind how incompetent Spagnuolo turned out to be, although I guess in hindsight it shouldn't have been when you see the debacle he led the Rams into. That guy is like Jim Haslett 2.0.

Maybe, but I think Lewis has become the best free agent signing we've had since Drew Brees. At least by his play this season. He's been the shutdown corner that we have been looking for this team for ages. I can see why Steelers' fans were pissed when they lost him.

I really thought the Spags hire would turn out great. He obviously wasn't a good HC, but he was a very good DC with the Giants if I remember correctly.
