Because we're doing pretty well. If he misses ONE STEP in this game, we'll be all over his back. Especially if... well.. I'm not going to speak it.

BTW: apparently many didn't read it, he is very complimentary of Vaccaro and his future in the NFL.

I highlighted that sentence for a reason. That's just a stupid question to ask. Reminds me of Scheffer's argument against putting Ark Monk in the Hall of Fame: "Which is Art Monk's signature catch"? (still remember Steve Czaban talking to Scheffer and comparing Michael Irvin who just had been inducted, ask Scheffer "which is Irvin's signature catch?", and Scheffer started "eh, uh, ah,".. I digress).

Then you take into consideration that Rob Ryan came in here and took the so-called worst defense ever in the history of the NFL, installed a new system, and in half a year made them the 5th ranked defense in the NFL. If he is misusing anyone, well...

Then you have "stats"... great. If the d-line makes the stop, you don't have tackles. If the QB doesn't throw your way, you don't defend or intercept passes.

.. . and speaking of Polamalu: yes Polamalu is great and all, but 2 things need to be taken into consideration: Polamalu came into the league to a very good, established Steeler defense. Yet, his rookie year, while he played in 16 games, he really wasn't the impact player he is now (or at least was until a couple of years ago) until his 2nd of 3rd year.

And I can play the stats game too: Polamalu played 16 games his rookie year, yet he only had 30 solo tackles, 8 assisted, forced only 1 fumble, and had no INTs.

The guy is in the running for defensive rookie of the year, and if he gets his stuff together and snatches a few INTs I think he can win it. But really the guy does it all and has shined brightly at times. Just give him some time, he'll get better.

If Kenny plays safety only then who plays slot? We have a lot of good players at the safety position would you rather him only play safety and us get burned rather what's happening now?

I'm not the smartest "football knowledge" guy to be sure.

But the guys calls him "solid" then attempts to compare him to the leagues tops safeties with regard to his "impact", which I don't believe is close to fair. He's a freaking rookie.

As a rookie safety starting in the NFL I'll take "solid" with a chance for great all day and twice on Sunday's.

Jack of all trades, master of none... One thing's for certain, Vaccaro will be an impact player in the NFL. It just may not be until the Saints allow him to settle into a singular role.

Make it happen Rob...

He's a rookie on a team with a new defensive coordinator ... it'll happen, they're all still getting comfortable with each other. I do think he fits the 'play him like Polamalu' theory, but it involves so much more than that and for now you just gotta' let RR work his magic,.

Sorry I don't want my saftey having a lot of tackles are leading the team in tackles. That says the other guys in front of him aren't doing the job and our D sucks.

It's about what's good for the defense and the scheme, not just what makes an individual player shine.

Re: Misusing Rookie Safety Kenny Vaccaro

right now i think Kenny is given way to much responsibility as a rookie. I believe there was little faith in White as a CB in the beginning. now with another injury to Greer, White has shown Rob a thing our two.

If Jenkins was a ball hawking FS things maybe different for Kenny also. Despite the improved play of Jenkins i believe he will be a cap causality next year and the saints will go out and find a ball hawking FS

As for the effect the CB have on him it is simple. Greer aint any young and IR as is Robinson, once again and he is another player i see playing else where next year. cap issues or IR issues.

But still we are down two CB and i really do not see an option on the team to change the way Kenny is used. lets face it we are thin at CB and have been and this team is loaded with way to many SS. something has to change before Kenny is played at his natural SS position and be groomed to replace harper when the times come.

benefit of have a SS heavy secondary is run support. :)
