this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Strief reminds me a lot of Jeff Backus, recently retired O/T (DET) ... much maligned, but when you break it down, he's actually doing a pretty good job ... I had heard that Oher hasn't been living up to expectations ...

Re: Should we make a play for Michael Orr?
Strief reminds me a lot of Jeff Backus, recently retired O/T (DET) ... much maligned, but when you break it down, he's actually doing a pretty good job ... I had heard that Oher hasn't been living up to expectations in Baltimore the past few seasons, but honestly, other than his Disney flick, I haven't done any research on him.
It'd be great, with his ability to play either side, if you could get him, but I'm wondering if he'd pull a 'Carl Nicks' by going to another team and flopping ... just wondering ... I think I'd rather take a chance on the draft then with some of these free-agent O/L. JMO. . |

I don't think he'd be much of an upgrade. |

Re: Should we make a play for Michael Orr?
No. He's not. Oher is an average player who had a movie made about his life. Strief is better by every measure.
If we had drafted Strief in the 3rd or 4th round instead of the 7th people would be talking about him as one of the better right tackles in the league (which he is). He plays at right about the same level as Jon Stinchcomb did, only difference is people were more willing to give Stinchcomb his due credit because he had pedigree. If you are talking about replacing Brown at left tackle, then go with Armstead - a young, cheap player that you've drafted and developed yourself - instead of signing somebody off another team's junk pile. The Ravens are one of the best run teams in the league, if they are cutting a homegrown player like that you are damn skippy they have a real good reason. |

Yeah, and I would think LT would be the position the Saints would want to upgrade if they're gonna' spend that kind of money on a O/L.
