Secondary Woes Vs Seattle

With Greer out and Percy Harvin trying to possibly have a breakout game, who would you like to see covering him.. Im assuming Lewis will take on Tate to start the game and Cory White will cover Baldwin Lord help us.. I think they try and have a big game for Harvin. Ive heard suggestions made that Vacarro will cover him in man situations and although I love what I've seen thus far out of Vacarro as a safety and being a Longhorn fan I've seen him be a great cover safety against people like Tavon Austin in college who is quicker and more agile than Harvin. If Harvin is up to speed from his hip injury I'm left worrying if he's ready for such an assignment. Your thoughts?

Secondary Woes Vs Seattle

My thoughts?

I'm more comfortable with White than Greer.

Sea chickens back get the dropsies regularly and they have no where near the receiving talent of the Falcons.

1. You're posting in the wrong section to post
2. Harvin is listed as doubtful
3. Seattle won't throw the ball that often because of the weather

In other words, we're not worried

Re: Secondary Woes Vs Seattle

I was not aware we had any "woes" in the secondary, we are currently ranked #3 against the pass. It's not 2012 anymore. The Saints D is very good. The key to Harvin (if he plays) is just to HIT him, hit him often and early, make contact and he will shrivel and disappear from the game... Harvin does not handle PAIN well, so the best way to take him out the game plan is to make him feel pain -- hit him and he will crumble and fold, like he always does. Sort of like the way we handled Amendola for the Patriots or Tony Gonzalez for the Falcons. Gimp him up and he will not be a factor. TBH I don't really expect him to make it to the 4th quarter or much of the 2nd half.

Re: Secondary Woes Vs Seattle

Sorry for the post being in the wrong section as it was my first post ever on this site and it was posted before the news of Harvin being downgraded to douptful came out. Forgive me for not being able to see the future. Anyways I think Greer was having a pretty damn good season. Cory White got picked on as soon as Greer went down and couldn't cover a no name receiver. For you to say you would rather see White than Greer is just silly. I don't really care for stats too much because they can be blind.. They might say that Chicago Bears are ranked second in pass defense but they don't take into consideration that teams are throwing the ball against them half as much as other teams because they are too busy running it down their throats.

Re: Secondary Woes Vs Seattle

White looked good in the 2nd half of the Atlanta game after he started pressing(gave up 0 catches). He is a much better press man corner than Greer ever thought about being, a lot more physical.

We'll be alright with White in coverage and a lot better against the run...

Seattle WR Corps has the "woes" with Harvin likely out for this game and Rice done for the season.

There are your "woes".

Re: Secondary Woes Vs Seattle

I think most of us expected White or Robinson would eventually surpass Greer as the CB2, given their ages. Before he went down, Greer probably had a slight overall edge over White because of experience, but what White lacks in experience, he makes up it for with size and physicality. Big CBs who can play press coverage aren't very common, so having White AND Lewis is actually a big advantage. White has already shown several flashes where he made a few really great jumps on the ball where he could get a hand on the ball because of his length. He probably could've tipped the final pass against NE that Greer barely missed.

I wouldn't have been surprised to see White as the starter in one of the next two years anyway. Throwing him in the fire now will jump start his development, but of course there are mistakes he's going to make along the way. He could make some big plays for us and could also blow a few for us. Let's just hope he comes up with more than he misses when it matters the most. I'm excited to see what type of player he is a few years from now.

I can see both sides of this argument. Yes, he got picked on in the first half of the Atlanta game by a receiver no one has ever heard of. And yes, he played great press coverage in the second half.

Do I think we would be better with Greer AND White? Absolutely. Do I think losing Greer will ruin the secondary? Probably not. Are we thin at CB? Yes. Do I think Rob Ryan will find a way to work around the injuries and lack of "big name" players? Yes, because he's been doing it all year.

And to whoever told the OP that he posted in the wrong spot...gimme a break. I see multiple posts on the same topics time and time again. And if you want to get technical about the rules, I think I recall reading a rule saying not to pick on the rookies!
