Rob Ryan Set to Unleash New Saints Looks vs. Seahawks?

The New Orleans Saints have a tall task in front of them on Monday Night Football as they must travel to Seattle to take on the Seahawks.

The good news is this is not 2012. In other words, the Saints have a genius at defensive coordinator Rob Ryan, who is more than capable of putting together new schemes to help his players find success in tough situations.

ESPN’s Terry Blount and Mike Triplett bring up a great point as to how Ryan will play a major factor in the outcome of the game:

I know this: Ryan will definitely have a plan. He is one of the league’s most innovative game-planners. Former player Scott Fujita described him as a “mad scientist.” We saw that quality more than ever two weeks ago when the Saints played the San Francisco 49ers. Ryan unveiled two new packages for that game, including a five-linebacker formation to corral the 49ers’ run game and the threat of the read-option. We may see the same thing this week, or maybe a new wrinkle since he likes to be unpredictable. I know the Saints’ defensive players will be amped to prove they’re just as good as the more-hyped Seahawks defense. Ends Cameron Jordan and Akiem Hicks, outside linebacker Junior Galette and cornerback Keenan Lewis are having breakout years, in particular.

It only makes sense that Ryan has something special up his sleeve. Ryan is known for his amoeba defense where all players come to the line standing up and can do multiple things once the ball is snapped. Against Russell Wilson and the Seahawks, New Orleans is sure to give some new looks to have a competitive edge in a hostile environment.

We can’t wait to see what the “mad scientist” has up his sleeve come Monday. Whatever it is, Seattle is sure to be ill-prepared.

Well, not trying to be a Debbie Downer, but, I wouldn't be crowning anyone just yet. Look at the two losses we've had this year. Both were Brain Farts in important games. Seems like we always come out with the jitters in games like this and if Ryan is so great, how come he's never beaten his brother Rex who has an inferior team to ours and yet they beat us in that game? I know, some of the blame goes to Payton too but you get my point.

I expect us to win this game, but I don't think we're going to see what we'd all like to see and that is a dominant performance by all phases of the team, Offense, Defense and especially Special Teams.

I don't know about anyone else but I'm still not sold on Ingram and I'd love to see us bring 4 RB's to this game, seeing how they're all somewhat nicked up and how we lost every RB we had in that playoff game and we didn't even have JG in that game as well.

What I'd like to see is some determination from our entire team. Like I said, that's what I'd like to see, but more than likely, we'll see a timid team with the jitters that won't settle down until the 3rd qtr. if at all, and wind up getting a lucky FG at the end to win it. Not a confidence inspiring win, just a win.

I hope the Saints have PT, Sproles, Ingram & Robinson activated for the game; probably could get by without as many WRs because of the weather.

my concern is Seattle flipping the script on Ryan and going hurry-up
our defense looked beyond confused for half the game against New England
Ryan best plan won't mean anything if we can't get the right personnel out there

Hurry-up is a double-edged sword; especially in bad weather conditions.

The ball will be hard to handle and there is a chance of a fumble between QB & RB

I don't know that we could put that L on Rob's shoulders. The offense could've helped him out a bit more.

Wilson is going to be very confused for much of the game.

Yep.

I would love it if Seattle ran Hurry-up on us for reasons you mentioned, plus, it puts the ball back in Drew's hands faster.

Per the weather channel, the rain will stop around 5pm (pst) and it will be mostly clear for the remainder of the evening. I didn't see anything about snow. Besides the weather will affect both teams with a wet field.

I lived in Seattle during the days of the Kingdome and it rarely snowed, especially in the beginning of December

Appears you already have is one mapped out. So you'll be doing something else and will just catch the final score in the news.

Should be more interesting than you think. Timid teams with the jitters don't win 9 in a row on Monday night.

Wilson is no Brady and it takes a cerebral experienced QB to successfully pull off a no-huddle. The only way Seattle goes no huddle is if the plays are scripted and then still we will see a boat load of Lynch.

Good luck pulling off a scripted no-huddle against our defense.

I could totally see this happening too. But I sure hope I don't. Except the win, of course...

Re: Rob Ryan Set to Unleash New Saints Looks vs. Seahawks?

I really can't blame Ryan without knowing exactly what the players responsibility was suppose to be. Don't think it was drawn up for JR to crash down inside and not contain the outside and I'm pretty sure the plan wasn't to let the TE run free and hope he trips and falls. Too many times I saw double coverage on 1 receiver only to have another wide open. Someone missed their assignment. If you were to tell me Monday morning that we would hold Lynch to 45 yards and 0 TD's I would have said we win double digits not lose by double digits.

I will have to simply put this on Ryan. He failed miserably in his game plan. Ironically we stopped Lynch pretty much cold. But whatever he designed with our pass defense seemed to be confusing to our players. And I cringed when I saw an all out blitz like we had in that game vs the 49ers in the playoffs, and ended up with the same outcome, a big big pass play for Seattle. Please Dear Lord you haven't been all out blitzing at all this season, do not start now. We don't need to.

ok lets stop blaming the look. it was shot before half was over. piss poor adjustments were made and even worse on the fly. all they did was what the pats did, spread us out. no lessons learned in foxboro.
