I don't think Mathieu would have done as well in New Orleans. Getting away from it all and going to Zona with his big brother mentor helped him get his life together.

I'm happy for him, but I have no regrets drafting Vaccaro.

Let's see; 8th ranked defense... I can't complain too much, plus Vaccaro was the top rated safety coming into the draft :bng:

I will admit I have salivated over the thought "what if we would've drafted Vacarro AND Mathieu."

Well, I went back and looked and it would've been impossible unless we traded up for him. He went early 3rd round a few picks before the Saints selected their second overall pick in the 3rd round (we didn't have a second rounder). Even if he fell to us in the 3rd, I doubt we would've selected back-to-back DBs since we had just acquired Keenan Lewis and drafted Vacarro in the 1st (which was a slam dunk). So yah, it's nice to think about...but I think we can all agree Mathieu wasn't worth trading up for at the time.

If we Drafted again (and still wanted a safety) I'm sure we'd get Vaccaro. Guy brings a Tempo to the Defense and is a more all-around type Safety, which is what Ryan wants. If we wanted one just for coverage I bet we'd draft Reid
