Bounce-back game for New Orleans Saints' offense no given vs. Carolina Panthers' top-notch defense
An offensive performance like the one the New Orleans Saints displayed in their loss to Seattle last Monday may set other teams back for weeks.
The Saints mustered only 188 yards of total offense, the lowest single-game total in the Drew Brees-Sean Payton era. Brees' 147 passing yards was the second lowest of his Saints career in games in which he played the vast majority of the snaps. New Orleans entered the Seattle game ranked third in scoring and total offense in the NFL. They left ranked seventh in scoring (26.0 points per game) and sixth in offense (396.1 yards per game). When asked what the Saints needed to improve upon heading into Sunday night's matchup against the Carolina Panthers in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, Saints coach Sean Payton said, "Shoot, pretty much everything." Brees said he knows Seattle "whupped" the Saints a few days ago, but it's not like the Saints' offense will fold up shop anytime soon. "We've done things well for a very long time in a lot of different ways," Brees said. "One game does not set that back. One game does not change our mindset, our confidence level or our attitude in any way. Last week is in the rearview mirror. ... "We still know we're a great football team. We still know that everything we want to achieve is right out in front of us. All the things that happened in that game are all the things that can be fixed, things that we can identify and that we can fix. We don't lack talent in any area. We don't lack certainly the effort or the intelligence or the want to in order to get those things done."
