The bookends of the New Orleans Saints' Dome Patrol defense terrorized, trucked and tortured opposing quarterbacks in the late 1980s and early 1990s as Pat Swilling and Rickey Jackson set the sack bar pretty high for any other pass rushing descendants. Twice the tandem tallied seasons of double-digit sacks in 1991 and 1992.
Neither current-day Saints defenders Cam Jordan or Junior Galette are near the stature of Swilling, a multiple Pro Bowler, and Jackson, a Hall of Famer. Yet Jordan and Galette are only one Galette sack away from the Saints possessing two players with double-digit sack totals for the first time since 2004. Some other Saints duos, and even one trio, served as multiple headaches for opposing quarterbacks since Swilling and Jackson. Renaldo Turnbull and Jackson achieved the feat in 1993. Darion Conner and Wayne Martin also pulled it off in 1994. The trifecta of La'Roi Glover, Joe Johnson and Darren Howard combined for 40 sacks in 2000 to propel the Saints to a season in which they won the franchise's first playoff game. Howard and Charles Grant were the last two Saints players to each compile 10 or more sacks in one season. The difference for the Jordan-Galette pair as opposed to the other groups to reach the milestone are how the pair is seemingly just scratching the surface as to what it can accomplish together in a Saints uniform. Jordan is tied for fourth in the NFL with 11½ sacks and he's only in his third season. Galette, his fourth season and first as a full-time starter, entered Week 15 tied for 13th with nine sacks. It's one thing to view this from a Saints historical standpoint, but looking at the sack totals in a present-day spectrum and the Saints possess one of the most potent duos in the NFL this season. While I love Galette, your right we shouldn't overpay for him. He should get a good contract offer but if he seeks crazy money we should move on from him and see what Butler can do... off-season is so far away (hopefully)

We signed Galette to 3 years for 6.3 million this past offseason. We did it at the perfect time.

I love this duo. Them and Hicks and young Jenkins is such a great foundation for a defence.

DE for the saints are the most complete package i have seen in a while. that canook named Hicks is getting better with each game. i will say Jordan is not as good in run defense as Hicks is. I think we have our two starters.
OLB is another story. improving? yes but at a very slow pace. run defense from this group is not that hot, pass defense aint much better, sacks are the glamor stats. |

We need Kyle Van Noy!!! A new CB and Kyle would make Offenses crumble at the sight of the Saints D.
