MEMO TO JIM HASLETT: Stop blaming the fans and start blamin
Did anyone happen to see Jim Haslett's news conference after today's loss? A reporter asked him about the fans "being on Aaron all day" and what he thought about that. Haslett, in what has become his typical "blame everyone but me" attitude proceeded to launch into a diatribe about how "it's supposed to be home field advantage but I guess that's not true around here".
Well, I, for one, am sick and tired of this moron blaming fans, refs, the media, beer vendors, announcers in the booth and anyone else who happens to be around for his, that's right, his inept coaching. Since Mr. Haslett is apparently unable, or more accurately, unwilling to take responsibility for his team, perhaps we can enlighten him (and place blame squarely where it belongs) by asking him a few simple questions: 1) Did the fans complete 12 of 31 passes for 145 yards and 2 interceptions today? No, Brooks, the self-described "one of the top 5 QBs in the league" did. 2) Did the fans leave him in the game when he clearly was inept? No, Mr. Haslett, you did. 3) Your excuse today (aside from blaming the fans) was the same tired "we didn't play well" excuse you've used everytime your team has stunk up the place. So just who is responsible for seeing to it that the team does play well? (Hint: It's not the fans, the refs, the media, the announcers in the booth or the vendors) You are. 4) This is the second time in two years that the Saints have fallen flat at the end of the season. Who's responsible for that pattern? You are. Now, I don't claim to know everything there is to know about coaching an NFL team but there are a few things I do understand. For example, Jim, did you know there is a direct corelation between how successful a team's starting quarterback is and that team's won-loss record? How effective was Aaron Brooks the last half of the season? (Hint: Not very) What was the Saints' won-loss record for that time? (Hint: 3-5) Haslett made the decision to leave Brooks in today's game yet, for some reason, he considers himself above any criticism for that decision. Well, I have a "news-flash" for him...he is, at best, an average coach, but more likely, he is not a very good one. He has made boneheaded decisions all year long yet has learned nothing by them. But, more importantly, his job is to motivate his team to play like champions. Clearly, he is unable to do so and if his "blame everyone but me" attitude is any indication, it's no wonder his team quits on him. Sadly, Jim Haslett is not a man who learns by his mistakes. He's had plenty of them to learn by this year but he's been too busy looking for scapegoats. It would appear that mediocrity will continue to be in the Saints' future until he either loses this fault or is replaced outright. For now, the owner, Tom Benson, should fine him so he understands that without the fans, there is no NFL. And, without the NFL, there is no Saints. And, without the Saints, there is no head coach named Jim Haslett because it's obvious no other team will ever hire him in that capacity. At least not with his present attiutude. Am I being too tough on him? You bet I am. Does he deserve it? You bet he does...in spades. |

I guess if we were the kind of fans Haslett would like, we\'d be talking about all the positive things that happened this year and how wonderful next year will be (especially if Brooks gets his GED!). In my view there was only one postive and that was Duece. He was a great surprise but I can\'t help thinking Haslett was just lucky on that one.

This next year will be the tell-tale year for Haz!!!! Mike MCCArthy is not as predictable as Carl Smith, but he does not know how to adjust to other teams adjustments. I have read several articles on how the Raiders and Patriots have adjusted their offense to adapt to other teams different schemes. I know that Brooks has played piss poorly in the last few games and about 35% of it can be attributed to McCarthy. Many of the Saints routes are of the 8-15 yard variety. Many of the teams have started to sit on those routes an make Brooks\' read a lot harder. It seems that the tight ends and the full back have all but been forgotten about. Yes, they have dropped several balls, but that does not mean the offense should forget about them. There have been games where Horn has dropped balls, but did they forget about him. No! :exclam: If Joe Pendry were to come available as a offensive coordinator ( The Guy who coached Andre Reed, Jim Kelly, Thurman Thomas) I really think the Saints should get him because he is an expert at making second half adjustments (Houston 35 Buffalo 3 at halftime). Another thing is that the overall attitude of the the team stinks. Jim Haslett is being way to quiet on the sidelines trying to let his coaches do their job. It is time for Venturi to go. He has been given a chance at many of the coaching positions and has not excelled at any of them. Changes that must be made: Venturi must go, If Dave Campo is available get him MCCarthy must go, If Pendry is not available move Mike Riley to OC Haslett must let his emotions show and blast his players not just chew on that damn pen and hold his forehead Clemmons must be replaced by a linebacker with emotion and leadership ability Fred Thomas, Ken Irvin, must go to let the younger players get playing time Fontenot should retire because the bull rushers are wearing him out Grady Jackson and Norman Hand should stay away from \"Big Wiggle\'s\" because both of them are two fat to Wiggle they just Jiggle If Haz is two scared to pull the trigger on his \"Boys\" then he will end up like Mike Ditka. P.S. I know this is a long post, but I hope some of you all reply |

You are so right Blake. Don\'t forget, if this team wins it\'s last three games (against teams that were 3-10, 1-13, and 6-9 at the times we played them), we not only get into the playoffs, we\'re the number two cede! We win the division and have home field advantage.
Forget the rest of the season. The fact that we lost to Detroit, Atlanta TWICE (that should never happen), Cleveland, etc. If we win the last three games we walk away with a division title. Instead, we don\'t even make the playoffs. Look at the playoff teams around the league. I bet at least 25% of them started off 1-3 or 1-4. How you start is important, but ultimately it matters only so much. What matters is how you play in the second half of the season. We have been absolutely embarrasing in the second half the last two years, and I have seen nothing to prove that next year will be otherwise. Fire Haslett. Fire him now and go get a Norv Turner or a Marvin Lewis while there\'s still time. |

We seem to have forgotten some people that did do all they could to help this team be good. For instance, Al Everest, Special teams coach. Where would we be without him. His special teams played as good as any in the NFL. Michael Lewis, he did everything to get the offense into position to win every game. Fred McAfee, again one of the best special team players in the league.

Joe: Fully agree that Special Teams not only played well, but lived up to expecations aaand sustained their performance all year. But we got BIG problems man, when the entire O & D teams seem as spineless as an amoeba. This isn\'t the time to be looking for silver linings. The Emperors (Haslett & Benson) have no clothes and yet they seem sublimely ignorant of that fact.
What is it that is so fundamentally wrong with this team\'s spirit??????? |

Benson does not take me for the type of man that is going to stand idle as a member of his staff takes shots at the fans of his team ......
Benson is probably hopping mad himself and is going to be having some very interesting conversations with Fielkow , as Fielkow tries to package the Saints as the Gulf Coast South team that cannot get into the Play offs . |
