There is losing then there is losing

If you look at teams like the Pats, Broncos, Seattle, Bengals(except tonight) they lose games but not like us. Nobody has really woodshedded any of them this season.

This is a very uncommon thing is what I'm getting at. To have a team with 10 wins getting completely beat down then completely beat down other teams is really hard to wrap my head around. The inconsistency of things from game to game is off the chart.

One week the OL looks like they were starring at blades of grass then then they hold off one of the best defenses. I understand there are a lot of elements to it but the drop off is kinda all of a sudden, boom. Same with the offense. Same with kicking, same with all of it. There really is no middle ground. It's either great or nothing.

Maybe we are just in some funk, it's really only 4 games I'm talking about where this roller coaster stuff happened but still, this is not the case with other playoff teams, it's just not. They lose by and large with a valiant effort. We get destroyed.

I almost wish at halftime Payton had called Fisher and said the Saints are playing with their heads up their a$$es and he isn't going to risk injuring his players and conceded the game.

I'm sorry, but a loss is a loss in my book.

Denver, New England, and the Bengals have or are getting beat by non-playoff teams this week.

Not true; Chargers, Miami and Pittsburg are all still eligible for the playoffs

Maybe the Dolphins at 8-6, but the Steelers and Chargers hopes are very slim. What's it matter though, we can all agree that Denver, New England, Cincinnati have the more talented teams and shouldn't have lost

This loss is worth mentioning, since we are talking about losing to a 5-8 team. This to me is about consistency and mental toughness. In 2009 and 2011, we never thought we weren't in it -- even when were down. We do not seem to have the mental toughness, play-design cunning or Sean Payton risk-reward mindset this year.

If you can't execute in week 14, with all the scenarios and opportunities that were on the table, then you have some issues. The players were flat offensively, the defense struggled and their were some questionable play calls. The loss IS worth mentioning…..we needed to win…period.

I agree its worth mentioning. Am I freaked out and thinking we won't get into the playoffs? No. But still I'm baffled as well by us getting our ass handed to us by mediocre teams. It's almost as if there was no practice or tape review on them. Like our team spent the week dicking around.

^^^Almost like, what he said.

It seems mental to me. I mean did we scare ourselves talking about the past? I just don't see how anything about being on the road in a fairly quiet dome -- hurt us.

I agree with you guys. I'm not pissed that we lost, because in all fairness you gonna loose a couple every season, but I'm pissed about the WAY we lost. No protection, no running game, Brees had his head stuffed up his arse, IDIOT KICKER!, nobody could tackle to save a life, getting pushed back, no return game and no pressure. Embarrassing!

I think the Refs are ruining this game. Denver which is a pretty good team leads 24 nothing at halftime and all of a sudden the team comes back and rules them. Something is not right here. I have seen it everyweek where the officiating is wop sided. Sometimes it has been in our favor but it isn't right. You saw the calls completely terrible and not equal yesterday. That being said the line cant keep pressure off Brees. Time for Brees to show some additude throw his helmet to the ground sit out a play and tell his people to do their damn jobs. 6 trips to the end zone and one field goal and one touchdown come on man what kind of play calling is that and to not be able to run on the Rams is amazing to me.

I think it is absolutely mental.

1st two possessions of the Jets game - Missed FG and an Interception
1st two possessions of the Seattle game - 3 and out, fumble ret for TD
1st two possessions of the Rams game - Interception and Interception

Rams played balls out. They played with nothing to lose, why not pull out all the stops. They did some gutsy stuff from the get go and got into the Saints' heads. That's all.

Re: There is losing then there is losing

Im a strong believer in the possibility that NFL teams (and refs) purposely throw games. Anytime you dump that much money into something, theres usually corruption involved to a certain degree. The ref calling is HORRENDOUS this year but yet Goodell is claiming that hes happy with the officiating this year....hmmmm. Then again,it could just be as simple as Sean playing mind games with Carolina. Either way,I have a very hard time beliving that that team, who knows the history with the Rams and talked all week about how they weren't gonna take them lightly, went out there and played their top effort. This team is too damn good for me to believe that.

Deja Vu anyone?
The Rams have owned us in there house. Oh well, the saints fate is even more in their own hands now.

Could be worse, we could be dallas fans. What a great pick me up after watching us get hammered.

Matt Flynn, surrounded with less talent, pulled off what we expected from Drew.

I'll take a stroll down memory lane, and add to that:

1st three possessions of the 49ers (2012 playoff) game: fumble, 3 and out, INT, 49ers up 17-0

Almost all of these "famous" road game losses, they dig themselves into a hole early and that's it, it's all over

We got SPANKED . Outclassed, physically beaten. I just want to move on and let this embarrassing beat down be forgotten. Panthers need to be beaten to save the season.

If all of the previous is worth mentioning then so is this. Dec and Jan are what Super Bowl Champions are made of... Not the previous months.

Giants <- how many times have they come back from crap seasons.
Ravens/Flacco <- different teams and players in the play offs.

We will be in by at least a wild card and then we can see what the Play Off Saints look like.

I just know Jeff Duncan is going to have a field day with this loss. That guy has got to be over the moon with happiness, right about now. This is like all he could dream of in his wildest dreams, after the Seattle loss made him so happy, and the Panthers game last week had him all bummed out.
