After watching Brown struggle against Quinn, who leads the NFC with 15 sacks, Payton took the unusual step of benching Brown in the third quarter, which caused a shift in the offensive line. Right tackle Zach Strief moved to left tackle and Bryce Harris came in at right tackle.
"It was one aspect that I think we needed to change during the flow of that game," Payton said. "There are some position groups where maybe it can happen -- wide receiver, defensive back, running back -- and you might not even be that much aware of it because of substitution patterns... Another difficult decision Payton could be faced with this week is what to do with erratic kicker Garrett Hartley. Hartley missed a 26-yard field-goal attempt in the fourth quarter and had 36-yard attempt blocked with six seconds remaining in the first half. "We can't kick a field goal," Payton said. "We have one blocked, which was a low trajectory. The other one was shanked to the left." Hartley is tied for 18th in the NFL, having converted 22 of 30 field-goal attempts. He has converted five of six from 20 to 29 yards, five of eight from 30 to 39 yards and nine of 13 from 40 to 49 yards. READ FULL ARTICLE HERE |

Re: Charles Brown and Garrett Hartley's status unknown
Brown is serviceable but will have a rough day against the elite rushers in the leauge. We have gone from Jammal Brown who was a stud to Bushrod to Charlie Brown and that hasn't exactly been progression at the position.

Garrett Hartley absolutely sucks and if SP keeps him, I don't think I can watch.

Re: Charles Brown and Garrett Hartley's status unknown
I bet we move up in the draft and get the best lineman available. I think replacing Brown and de la getpunked will make a huge difference. Even replacing them with rookies.

Re: Charles Brown and Garrett Hartley's status unknown
The article and headline is actually kind of funny in hindsight. He's not one of their main beat writers.... Obviously, Terrance Harris is not the most plugged-in writer at nola.com to the Saints. The other regular beat writers probably didn't want to touch this story with a ten foot pole.

Re: Charles Brown and Garrett Hartley's status unknown
ok lets be honest here.
did anyone really think Brown was not going to have games like this when the season started? yes i said games. LT is a glaring weak spot since day 1. to my surprise he has done better than expect. but Drew is getting hit more now than ever before sorry the games played personal wise on the OL since the super bowl has final caught up SP and the front office. It was bound to happen Lesson learned you think? |
