I hate to see a guy lose his job because of a bad day against a good DE, but, the O line was not playing well this season, hopefully, this sparks something.

Would love to see something remotely resembling a running game. It's pretty much a given that the Saints pass on third down now, no matter what the yardage.

Payton is doing what he thinks will give his team the best chance. Leaving Charles Brown in is not giving his team the best chance.

The big guy is going to get thrown into the fire. He's going to make his first start guarding Drew's blindside against a good pass rush in one of the most important games of the year.

Armstead doesn't face any huge obstacles in the next two weeks. Neither the Bucs or Panthers swing huge bats on his side of the line.

No penalties and keep his head in the game and he will do fine.

WTF? the guy has had less than 10 snaps
if he is the answer, then why hasn't he been activated and at least given some reps?
at least we have used Lelito and Harris as TE-eligible and lead blockers

Armstead is the future though. Just not sure if he is ready. The coaching staff must have seen the light after the Rams game. So I think they smelled trouble and trying to keep the train on the rails.

He'll be fine. He has been honing his craft for 6 months, it's not like he got drafted yesterday. If the staff believes he's ready then it is time to leave the nest. Don't worry about it. He will also get help early.

As soon as I saw the title I thought Uhh-Oh.

But I gotta think Payton would never make this move unless he thought the young man was ready.

I wonder if the new safety is gonna steal some snaps away from Jenkins, or is he just depth until Bush gets healthy?

I want to see them run that play they ran once or twice during the Seattle game, I don't think I've seen it since. It was basically, every tight end on the roster, lined up to one side, with a big O lineman in the backfield as a blocker (not Jed Collins, it was a real lineman, I don't remember who). Then they gave it to Pierre and did a variation of the old flying wedge play -- four or five guys, they just violently plowed everybody into one side of the Seahawks line, taking them out, road grading -- and Pierre broke it for nine yards. It looked like a 1920s football play. Gruden was loving it. Does anybody else remember this play?

If things start looking bad, like when it got ugly against Seattle, they should just keep doing THAT play over and over, until they make the Panthers or Seahawks find a way to stop it. Then go back to passing.

Hope rookie is ready, there may be several different Blitz packages to see how he handles it and to see if anyone free gets picked up.

No one knows his weaknesses or strengths except our coaches, so its a gamble for Carolina.

Strengths

Armstead is a fantastic athlete for the position. He is light on his feet in pass protection, and nimble when on the move. Agile, moves well in space, shows the quickness to get to the second level and cut off linebackers. Has been asked to pull all the way across the line and has shown effectiveness in doing so. Bends and redirects well. Extends his arms to keep pass rushers at bay. Not overwhelmed by defensive twists and stunts. Does a good job of selling play fakes, draws, and screens. Weaknesses

Needs to improve lower body strength. Can get bull rushed back. Faced sub-par competition. Needs to speed up hands, and be more consistent with his aiming point. Gets to the second level quickly, but will struggle to locate his target, gets lost in space. Will lunge at defenders with his head down in the run game. NFL Comparison

Duane Brown Bottom Line

Armstead has been a fast riser in the postseason process. He's got an intriguing athletic skill set. Despite facing sub-par competition in season, he's shown the ability to be a good pass protector, and contribute as a run blocker. He can likely stay outside, although some teams might see him as a guard. He could find himself as a Day 2 pick before all is said and done.
