Do you mean the year when the Saints won a game? Won a game? Singular. Won one game. 1.
Do myou eman when I think mof my dad, many of his friends, all those season ticket people who went year in and year out? My folks had tickets from Tualne to the D. They had their D seats from the Dome opening to the very early 1990's.
Ok, I am going to be blunt here, but it is the truth. Like when we never had a real qb before Brees? Archie was ok. Bobby Hebert was ok but had a great defense. Back up , run out of the pocket Fourcade was ok.
Yeah, you gusy all talk about Brooks who was ok. Like when the Saints had Richard Todd?????? He was not even just ok.
Like when the Saints had a good years, years due to Morten Anderson scoring many fg's and that is how the Saints won?
I can go on and on.
Yes, I can answer your question.
I can remember.

As awful as it has been that the Saints, these Saints missed these five games when they really could have, should have missed, I think two of the five, it is still not as bad as all of those awful years were.

Yeah, I a disappointed about today. Losing to Crappy Whiney Cammy Baby Newton and losing at the end and giving the other team time to win, yeah, sad.
These Saints are way better than this.
All they can do is regroup for next week. Beat the TB Bucs. Finish 11-5.
Hopefully , they will show up strong even if they lose, during PO's.

Did someone actually make a thread against Sean Payton.... BELIEVE ME there are a HANDFUL OF FREAKING TEAMS that would KILL to have Sean Payton as a coach. You have got to be f'ing kidding me. I can't believe this thread was created!

That is a true statement.

However, you are NOT ALLOWED TO BE A VAPID Fv@KTARD TOOL WHILE MAKING INSIPID COMMENTS THAT WOULD MAKE SOMEONE WITH DOWN'S SYNDROME LOOK BRILLIANT BY COMPARISON.

GETTING RID OF SEAN PAYTON IS ONE OF THOSE COMMENTS.

It really annoys me that I even felt like I needed to say that.

Preach on OldMaid!!!

I'll take 11-5 any day of the week and twice on Sunday, along with Payton and Brees!

Today was disheartening. Painful and hard to watch. But, stranger things have happened in this league through the years. Who knows what can and will happen next week.

Rejoice and share a good laugh over this one... I'll be a die hard Falcon fan from 1pm to how ever long is needed next Sunday afternoon! Get your dirty bird on!

this is crazy, but yes the play calling is old. same thing over and over. The oline just plain sucks. How many turn overs has Brees had in the past couple of weeks? The lack of a run game, but the Defense is playing a lot better... ha ha Crazy crazy Sp is not all to blame here.

Not tired of Payton but I just don't get the stubbornness of not running the ball more. Ingram was have the best day of his career and we kept throwing the ball in the first half. Also if you're going to keep throwing with that kind of pass rush throw more quick slants like the two that worked perfectly to Meachem, quit looking for the kill shot when you don't have the time.

And then when we have a chance to ice the game, we run 3 straight dives against 8-9 man fronts to go 3 and out.

Terrible play calling. He played not to lose instead of playing to win.

He ran a prevent offense.

Giving the ball back to Carolina the way our D had handled him all day should have been a good decision. Throwing a possible INT in that field position would have been a gimme FG for Carolina. Who knew Cam would make the only three good throws he made all day with only a minute left.
The screen game was shut down all day, Brees was under constant pressure, and a incompletion would have stopped the clock for them. I just don't think Payton was totally in the wrong trying to run the clock down with ineffective runs.

Its like i've seen it before somewhere?

vs New England, vs New York Jets and now vs Carolina

Payton gives all the BS in the post game of how we will learn from our mistakes but he doesn't really care, he's too stubborn to change his approach now

Re: I am almost done with Payton

Not sure about "done with Payton" but after this game yesterday I think it's a legitimate time to pause and ask the question if maybe we have seen the ceiling of the Payton/Brees era and this whole incarnation of the Saints.

Like it or not, Sean Payton is still 0-3 in the playoffs on the road. This game yesterday might as well have been a playoff game, and they lost. Same with Green Bay in '11 and a couple of other key road game losses you could probably point to, with playoff or seeding implilcations over the years. The Saints are 3-5 on the road this year and were 3-5 last year without Payton. Drew Brees is 6-12 career on the road against teams with winning records. Of course, the Super Bowl year we had a very special defense and the #1 seed and home field all the way.

I was astonished when I recently learned that Drew was actually 6-11 on the road (now 6-12), against winning teams, and I wonder how many Saints fans may realize that, because it is never brought up.

Calling them "pass happy," finesse, non-physical, complaints about the playcalling, can't win in cold weather, get beat by physical teams, no run game, can't close out a game, blah blah blah -- maybe these criticisms are all just variations on the same thing... Maybe there is a ceiling to this style of Brees/Payton football and the mold of this team he's built -- maybe there's a limit on how far it can go. Maybe this formula is great for winning games in the Dome, where they are awesome, but maybe it does not work on the road. Without the comfort of the Dome in the post season, a coach who is 0-3 in postseason road games and a QB is who is 6-12 against winners, is always going to be an uphill battle in the post season, in anything other than getting the #1 seed position and being at home all the way.

This isn't last year anymore. We have our coach back and we even have a defense. The offense has been a massive failure this year, sucking in every single road game that I can remember.

Payton is supposed to be the offensive mastermind, and there haven't been any significant injuries to make excuses. That's why his play calling, and the horrible play of Brees and the O-line on the road all season have been so disappointing.

I'm not calling for a firing or anything, but I think the frustration is more than justified at this point. If it were any other team with this kind of talent playing this way, everyone on here would be mocking them. But whenever there is a dissenting opinion on the Saints an online version of a riot ensues.

Believe me, you are not alone in the realization of our road problems. I've been screaming it all season long, but this has definitely been an issue for the entire Brees/Payton era.

A road loss here and there is expected. But the failures of this team on the road go beyond the norm. It's actually kind of disturbing. It feels like they either don't want to play or they are scared half of the time. Then, when we are actually competitive in a road game, we choke in mind blowing ways. There is clearly some sort of mental block, and I don't know what you do about that. You'd think that over the years they would have been kicked in the nuts enough times to want to prove doubters wrong, but instead they just become increasingly inept in all things road related.

I mean, we lost to a 7-9 team in the PLAYOFFS on the road. What more can ya say.

We have some cry baby fans. You take Payton off this team And at best Saints are a .500 team. They're are a whole lot of teams in this league who would love to have coach Payton. A whole a lot of team would also love to be 10-5.

Stop the madness!!!.I dont want to wear paper bags over my head anymore!

We were a 7-9 team without him and with the worst defense in NFL history

Since he came back our offense has got worse, he should not be calling plays anymore

You're missing the point. This isn't about what kind of coach Payton is as a whole. It's about the poor job he has done with his offense, this year. And it is also about his inability to get his team up for road games, with the exception of '09.

We've lost some embarrassing games this year, and there is too much talent for this to keep happening. If not for the job Rob Ryan has done with the defense, we'd be talking about the worst team in the Payton era. I can't really give Payton much credit for being 10-5. No one denies that he has turned the franchise around, but we're too far along to be thinking about the paper bag days. This team has far more talent, and shouldn't be excused from the way it has played down the stretch.
