I am almost done with Payton

Losing games that we have won due to crappy play calling is way past old!

Paytons play call

Brees sacked for -7 yards

Screen to PT for -2 yards

Screen to sproles for 3 yards

Nice and original, we are not predictable at all are we coach

I think we should stop subbing so many people out, i can call the play thats coming based on who comes in at WR and RB

People tend to forget how bad we were last year.

Yes I'm upset but...Brother you are a complete f*$ktard fool if you think we're better WITHOUT Sean Payton.

You are allowed to be upset without turning in your fan card. I said it before preseason this was Seattle's year. We're still a good team. We, like Payton, have to consider this as Payton's first year. It's not a continuation of previous years. We need a few more pieces to be successful.
It's all bad, but it's all good.

I am finally joining this band wagon... its Sean's fault.

Although its always the HC's fault IMO But I give him a break because of the gutsy calls in the past.

HOWEVER!!! Where are the gutsy calls now. Pats game same thing... I am a big believer if you don't want the other team to win, THEN DON"T GIVE THEM THE BALL.

Should have played for the 1st down

What's wrong is that Payton put the entire team on notice last Sunday evening, and hasn't once since Seattle said a word about play call, preparation, or adjustments.
Somebody get the guy a mirror. We lost to the Pats the EXACT same way: two possessions with the lead with less than 5 minutes and no first downs. F$#@ing figure it out

I'm nowhere near done with payton the head coach however I've almost had my fill of payton the playcaller.

This offense is a MESS.
That was painful. I'm no football genius and called about half of our plays out before the snap.

We played to win on defense and played to lose on offense.

But we've found a kicker for now.

Re: I am almost done with Payton

I do not think you can lay the blame on Payton, you have to remember what it was like before he came to the Saints! We were the laughing stock of the NFC . I put most of the blame on an offensive line that can not pass block , can not run block and seems to cause penalties at the worst time . Going to have to do some real soul searching on that offensive line during the off season and come back next year with a more balanced attack and take some of the pressure off of Drew! Just my opinion!

Unfortunately, non of that is going to change until next season so it's on the head coach and play caller (one in the same) to put his players in the best position to succeed. He's not doing that.

Re: I am almost done with Payton

I really dont think payton is the problem. The screen is designed to tire out the DL and relieve pressure. Panthers LB's are to quick. The screens were not executed well or blocked well. Same with the run plays.
Really didnt matter what payton called, the offense could not do it anyway.

Re: I am almost done with Payton

This is the consequence of expectations. We expect certain things because we have won so many games since 2006. But when you think about it, what is really so glaringly different. We handled our toughest division foe(this year it's Carolina) at home and lost on the last drive at their house. And we destroyed them at home. Doesn't this usually happen with Atlanta. Yeah we dropped a couple of clunkers in St. Louis and New York, but we ALWAYS have trouble in St.Louis and just had a bad game in New York. We played New England tight and Seattle well Seattle no one plays well. That was Seattle's superbowl. Primetime game at home they whipped us just like we always do to everyone. We have some major work to do.
Now with that being said, there are some major concerns. The playcalling is predictable. The O line is horrible, and I mean horrible. It is the worse line in years, and if we didn't have Brees we would be a .500 team. The Defense is their job, yes they broke at the end but we should have never been in that position. If we would have had any offense in the 3rd quarter we would have won. Carolina gave us that game on a silver platter. Our offense did not get going until we were forced to run the ball more with the weather. Losing Vaccarro will hurt bad. I think we should turn running game over to Ingram and Robinson and commit to smash running. They have figured the screen and misdirection plays out and we had more luck running right up the gut. And it wouldn't surprise at all if Atlanta would beat Carolina. Without Steve Smith Cam looked a little lost and it wouldn't surprise me if Atlanta has anything left that they would win. I mean we lost to the Rams. You just never know, but definitely SP needs to stop being stubborn, lose the pride and admit that defenses have figured out our offense. It happens. Change it up. We aren't out yet.

RailBoss 12-22-2013 06:12 PM

Re: I am almost done with Payton

In my opinion the Offensive line has become our Achilles Heel. SP is calling screens to break the rush, Drew has been hammered this year like mad. Most teams are not giving us the time to burn them long. Can probably guess what is on the shopping list this year.

Re: I am almost done with Payton

We've got an awesome qb, a gazillion rb's, and nobody to block for them. Malcom should've made the play on the last TD, the right play call was there.

I agree dizzle88... the drive in the 3rd qt when we were actually throwing the ball up field to our wide outs was when we move the ball instead of the dump off screens or the sideway throws for a screen... U have to be basic sometimes and stop out thinking yourself. .. and its not we're turning on coach we just know he can coach better... Payton is really stubborn at times

Then why keep calling them?

Ingram was getting around 8 yds a carry and he gets pulled.

To be fair though he left with a injury for a little bit. By the time he got back in the game we were already playing not to lose so all of the plays called for him at that point were predictable.

I dont think they were called to be honest. Just a theory, but the pressure was so bad, I think they started adding a screen as an option, and Brees used that option instead of throwing down field. I saw the Wr's going down field in patterns and not blocking. So, thats all I can come up with.
If we did call that many screens on purpose, I am wondering more, where was the blocking ? PT was infront of most of the blockers it seemed. Though I might be remembering wrong.

A lot of the screens, the LB's just out ran the blocking linemen. That's what having fast LB's does for you...

I'm not. Man knows what he's doing. Remember it was loomis who gave Brees that contract and sold our oline for it. What did piss me off though is that after the game he was going on and on about how well they played and that they did a really good job and if they continue playing like that they will be fine. Pisses me off how he didn't hold anyone accountable and was talking like we won the game.

Mr.Riaton 12-22-2013 06:56 PM

Re: I am almost done with Payton

When Payton first showed up in 2006, he built this team around the offense, which was built around Brees. The second most important thing he set in place was the O- line to protect Brees. We've had a fine O line for years which gave us a consistant and productive offense up until the offseason when Brees wanted his payload. We lost Nicks and Kromer the following year and replaced them with mediocre linemen and a new o line coach. The only good offensive game we've had were when the O line did their job. Its not hard to see where our weakness is this year. If you fix the O line, our offense will be dominant again. I just dont get why Payton knowing that, let the O line get to this point.

pherein 12-22-2013 06:59 PM

Re: I am almost done with Payton

Well he might be looking long term. I dont think anyone is afraid of the panthers in the playoffs. In fact Im sure many teams are happy they might be in. SP's head might already be in the playoffs, and thinking about what is needed.
I dont understand the optimism either. Our offense really looks bad. Which is really disapointing because we might have a good D for the 1st time.
