Sean Payton’s ego has cost Saints

Re: Sean Payton’s ego has cost Saints
Hard to disagree!

Re: Sean Payton’s ego has cost Saints
Blame Payton for NOT feeding Ingram the ball. Blame Payton FOR feeding Ingram the ball three straight times.
BLAME Payton for the fake FG gamble. PRAISE payton for the on-side gamble. Damn I'm dizzy. His play calling was a direct result in those two games of the all out assault on his QB. I still have the faith in him (even with his aggressive trends). |
Re: Sean Payton’s ego has cost Saints
Sheesh! Damned if he does. Damned if he does not.
Ego is bad when we lose. Ego is good when we win. It is what it is. Either we think he is a decent a coach overall, or we don't. Make up your minds and then justify it. But whatever there is no perfect man out there. |

I can agree with that. Ingram was well on his way to a 100+ run game against a very good run defense. Hopefully we go back to basics on sunday. |
Re: Sean Payton’s ego has cost Saints
Payton runs the same kind of plays that won us a Superbowl. Now all of a sudden it's his ego. Payton is just being who he is, aggressive. Sometimes it does not work most of the time it does. Give the man a break. He's a great coach and that article is a load of crap. If everything he tried had worked, that article never would have been written.

Re: Sean Payton’s ego has cost Saints
i hate when he tries to out scheme a defense but in his defense he needs to address the OL issues so his hands are tied a bit on that one.
Till we get back to a balanced attack that produces consistently on the ground as well as through the air he will drive me nuts at times. So expect to see the saints use the run and passing attacks pretty evenly between the 30's then go to an unbalanced attack in side the opponents 30. pass pass pass. with a run thrown in to see if we catch the defense napping. i do not mind the heavy passing attack from 20 to 30 yards out because that always seemed to be drew comfort zone. but one time i want to see the saint jam the ball down an opponents (playoff caliber team) mouth for that last 30 yards and dare them to stop us. when SP has faith in the run game again he will go back to it. but the faith is not there. so it will be those cute plays that fail that will get this type of crap written about him. Cuteness can get you sick to stomach |
Re: Sean Payton’s ego has cost Saints
The only criticism I have is our run game. When we won the SB, we ran well and were committed to it. Maybe it's personnel? Maybe it's a reaction to what the other teams are presenting us, heck I don't know, I'm not the professional, it's just an observation. And really, under Payton, we've done some odd play calling,,,double reverses, on-side kicks, fake field goals. Your a fricking genius when they work and a complete tard dart when they fail.

Re: Sean Payton’s ego has cost Saints
Oh yeah, because he's only come back and led the team to playoff contention when we were well out if it last year in his absence. While making the playoffs the 3 previous years with our first ring sprinkled in there too.
Players haven't been making plays they normally make. Drew Brees in particular. Holding the ball when the o line is shotty. |
Re: Sean Payton’s ego has cost Saints
This is just dumb. His "EGO" is the primary reason we've been a top team since his arrival.
Sportswriters make Saintfan grumpy. |

Re: Sean Payton’s ego has cost Saints
Some of his decision reminds me of 2007-08 Payton when the Saints were floundering. One of those years, I forget which, we missed the playoffs because we needed 2 yards at the end of the game against the Bucs....Payton called an end around to Devery Henderson who was promptly stuffed 3 yards in the backfield. Bucs kicked an easy FG to win.
You take the bad with the good when it comes to Payton, but man when he's bad it is always in the worst situations. |
Re: Sean Payton’s ego has cost Saints
If any of us can coach better than Sean, may this person step up and speak to Mr. Benson about replacing Sean.
Otherwise, shut up and suck it up. Don't watch the game Sunday, instead, locate film from last year. Watch, enjoy and repeat. |
Re: Sean Payton’s ego has cost Saints
The only knock I have ever had with Payton is..........THE RUN GAME!!
|
Re: Sean Payton’s ego has cost Saints
NFL Head coaches are supposed to be chock full of a ego.
Wouldn't want anyone else coaching us right now. |

I couldn't find 1 clue in that article or the comments below it.

This is Sean Paytons team. Sean Payton did the interviewing of Rob Ryan and the hiring of Rob Ryan. It was also Sean Paytons decision and plan to switch to a 3-4 defense which played a huge part in the selection. |

Re: Sean Payton’s ego has cost Saints
Ego? I WANT my coach to have an ego.
See how the team played without two big egos (payton & williams)?? Yeah. Ego is a good thing when you're coaching a bunch of highly-paid, type A, athletic freaks!! |

He know's more about football then will ever know. I trust in Coach Payton.

Re: Sean Payton’s ego has cost Saints
No sane person questions Sean Payton's stature as a premier coach in this league. Naturally, he is not perfect. This year some of his play-calling has been questionable. He obviously does not believe in his run game. He, obviously, has bet the house on the defense. So, that tells you alot about what Payton thinks about his offense.

Re: Sean Payton’s ego has cost Saints
Why do we post this stupidity?
Can we get a thread prefix "BLOGGER BS" so its easier to ignore? |
Re: Sean Payton’s ego has cost Saints
The fake field goal was a display of non-confidence in Shayne Graham which I do not like at all. We got him for a reason.
I think Brees should shoulder some of the blame for the rather awful interceptions over the last few away games. |
Re: Sean Payton’s ego has cost Saints
Can someone explain why Payton is quick to abandon running the ball when it is successful?
Or why he keeps calling screen plays when they aren't working, for whatever reason? Or why he will call for a reverse, double-reverse, etc on a short yardage play? Or why he calls a pass on 1st down so often, it is as predictable as which direction the sun rises? As smart as Payton is, sometimes he over-thinks plays. If he doesn't think PT, Ingram, Sproles, Robinson, etc, can't get a yard or two, then maybe he needs to cut or bench that player to send a message. |

I love my coach.
Payton's so good, he plans every failure. He is simply just setting teams up… HA |
Re: Sean Payton’s ego has cost Saints

No one is saying he shouldn't coach. Payton brought the playcalling coach trend to the NFL. But Payton also could be considered the Pat Riley/Doc Rivers of the team. He is the emotional support the team needs. |
Re: Sean Payton’s ego has cost Saints
All of his struggles come from lack of confidence in the running game.
He's an excellent pass play caller , but only when the threat of a run exists. He doesn't have enough discipline to run the ball. |
Re: Sean Payton’s ego has cost Saints
What would really suck would be if the Saints somehow blew it this Sunday and missed the playoffs and Dallas loses tomorrow night.
The stage would be set. |
Re: Sean Payton’s ego has cost Saints
I love Payton. His record speaks for itself, especially versus former Saints coaches. From a fans perspective, I just wish he would run the ball more and do less with the sub packages. The one thing that concerns me is, while the comparison is not close in regards to record, brains and ability as a Head Coach, after Haslett had success, he thought EVERY decision he made from that point on was golden. Even when it CLEARLY wasn't. Payton just seems to share that trait. Call it ego, whatever. You have to learn from your mistakes or you're doomed to repeat them. Plus, I do believe most coaches could win with Brees at QB. Just sayin.

Re: Sean Payton’s ego has cost Saints
Good decisions, or bad decision you can't dispute facts.... The fact of the matter is that Payton is worth 3 more wins a season than the average coach.... And now whether we make it or not that has been proven. Just me, im lamenting some of the calls. But Im not the coach, or the staff.... he has earned my trust... #getonboard
