No Good Offers on Trades, So Stood Pat...

Round 1 (27) Jerimiah Attaochu, OLB, Ga Tech; Height: 6’ 3”; Weight: 252 lbs.

Rare Athlete with Rare Speed/Size Combination; Elite pass rusher with history of production and film revealing an even higher ceiling; Great attitude and person who showed trust in coaching at Senior Bowl by playing at all linebacker positions (+Versatility) and at defensive end; Nigerian immigrant with appreciation for his opportunity and fierce competitor; Can start for the Saints immediately as an upgrade at SAM; injured at Senior Bowl, didn't participate in drills at Combine but, still recovering, had an impressive Ga Tech Pro Day; First round pick for all these reasons and because he's a three down linebacker...

Round 2 (58) Donte Moncrief, WR, Ole Miss; Height: 6’ 2”; Weight 221 lbs.

Taller Wide Receiver with Big, Thick Physical Frame; Best Route Runner in the draft; Despite questions about straight line speed, ran a 4.4 at Combine; Sudden, Quick change of direction in running routes gaining a significant advantage; Good Hands with large catch radius, though he does allow some balls to his body; Still productive against elite cornerbacks in the SEC despite limited supporting cast at Ole Miss; Rare availability because of deep wide receiver class; if either Clemson's other kid, Martavis Bryant, or Vandy's Jordan Matthews is available here, we will would be happy with either of the three...

Round 3 (91) Jordan Tripp, ILB, Montana; Height: 6’ 3”; Weight 240 lbs.

Touted as an outside linebacker; would be a great complement to current Saints scheme as an Inside LineBacker as Tripp displayed top end speed, quickness in coverage and in space in both Combine Drills and at Senior Bowl; history, production of stopping running back cut-back lanes as well as sideline-sideline pursuit; another unique ability is covering lesser wide receivers on intermediary routes; could upgrade either of the Inside Linebacker spots for the Saints now which is the only glaring need of upgrade on defense; Touts his versatility in interviews because he really is a 3 down linebacker...

Round 4 (122) Walt Aikens, CB, Liberty; Height: 6’ 1”; Weight: 205 lbs.

Size is inline with transition to NFL move for more physical corners with long arms as a plus; first thing that jumps out is scouts' comparison to Saints' Keenan Lewis; Red Flag - started career at Illinois and pulled a bone-head theft stunt; transferred to Liberty to get priorities correct; despite adequate timed measurables (ran a 40 at 4.49 at ProDay) has second gear; displayed play-making creativity at Illinois as a freshman safety and continued at the Senior Bowl; The Football GamePlan CEO that posts here really had a great, genuine interview with Aikens at Senior Bowl (you really need to see it via youtube)...

Round 5 (167) Russell Bodine, OL, UNC; Height: 6’ 3”; Weight: 310 lbs.

Strong, real strong; Versatile, can play Guard and Center at high level; in fact, while I like Weston Richburg of Colorado State, can't see spending a high pick like that when there's not much drop-off to Bodine or Larsen (who's got a brother in the NFL); but Bodine being versatile is a key to depth on the Saints 53 man roster and penchant for only keeping a couple of offensive linemen for depth; Great Knee Bend; Despite "squatty frame" has very quick feet; always seems to recover against bull rushers despite initial "skating" and able to thrown back defenders; plays with a bit of a nasty streak to his game...

Round 5 (169) Howard Jones, OLB, Shepherd; Height: 6’ 2”; Weight: 235 lbs.

They finally added my Deep, Deep, Small School, Dark Horse Candidate to the FanSpeak dBase - Hoorah! A Combine Invite, Jones did not disappoint; his play has resulted in the first ever Pro Day for his school, which the Saints were one of seven (7) teams present; despite interests from larger schools in the area Virginia, Virginia Tech he had to get his grades right and so that's why he's playing at a small school; with his athleticism can be an immediate special teams contributor and with a season, season and half of development should be a starter and with his frame/size will have versatility of a 34 OLB or Ryan's 335 ILB/OLB...

Round 6 (186) Justin Britt, OT, Missouri; Height: 6’ 6”; Weight: 325 lbs.

Britt has the NFL prototypical size, measurables; though often over-looked because of Mizzou's defensive candidates; expect Brittt to develop, contribute quickly as a right tackle; went up against 2014 Draft Prospects Kony Ealy and Michael Sam, but he also faced 2013 first round pick Sheldon Richardson - so he's faced talented linemen during all those weeks of practice as well as the SEC's finest; only issue with his game is second level blocking, which he could develop behind Zach Strief (and possibly be better)...
