It's another week and another enormous challenge for New Orleans Saints rookie left tackle Terron Armstead.

Armstead, who will be making his initial playoff appearance Saturday against Philadelphia in just his third start, will have his hands full taking on Eagles veteran outside linebacker Trent Cole a good part of their NFC wild-card matchup.

Cole has certainly taken notice of the youngster, who was elevated over veteran Charles Brown after the loss at St. Louis. The Eagles' regular-season sacks leader is clearly looking at Saturday night as an opportunity.

"He's very athletic, but he's got some weak spots," said Cole, who had eight sacks, 15 quarterback pressures and 10 tackles for loss during the regular season and ranks second on the team's all-time career sacks list with 79. "That's the thing, man, going into the game you take advantage of them. I see they helped him out with a bunch of chips and stuff, and it's helped out.

"But it's a challenge for him, and it's a challenge for me. Every game is different, every player is different."

When asked if he expects the Saints to provide Armstead help against him Saturday, Cole replied, "They'd better."

Frozen ground will help him keep his footing. A lot to ask of a rookie but he'll be alright. I'm also factoring in the countless times players talk trash and don't deliver which is almost every time.

I can't stand when ppl talk trash about that aren't good or on the down end of their career talk trash like cole has figured out the biggest secret on earth. Armstead is a rookie he going to have weak spots. Oh trent and by the way you aren't as good as you used to be. Seems like the arrogance of the pompous chip kelly has rubbed off on his players.

He's primarily a bull rusher so Armstead has to anchor.

brown isn't going back in unless Armistead stinks up the joint. sp is done with cb, and there is a very good reason for that, but we don't know what it is. maybe lazy?

What would expect Cole to say? They guy is a top LB... I feel better knowing that at least Armstead has eight quarters under his belt - 6 of which he played pretty well.

This is a very VERY bad sign.. Trent cole is a hell of a pass rusher,and if hes calling a rookie out on what could be hes 3rd start.. BROWN SUCKS??? Guys ya all forget he got killed by robert quin who is one of the best. yes hes struggled more than that game, but by not putting brown back in this could be a murder scene.. Maybe armstead proves me wrong though and this rookie shuts down a veteran pass rusher in only his 3rd start.....????????

I don't think Payton would be just "sending a message" during a playoff game. He must believe that Armstead is the best option.

I'll be the first to admit that I don't watch the o-line on most plays but I don't remember him during the Tampa Bay game so he must've done pretty good.

This guy has 8 sacks on the season and he is talking like he is the best in the league. Glad SP has his players under control, I don't see Cam Jordan smack talking and he is twice the player Cole is.

Cole's sacks? OAK x 1, WASH x 2, AZ x 2, CHI x 3

Where was he against decent QB's? What about against playoff teams? Lot of splaining to do, Trent.

In Armstead and Payton I trust; Brown is a decent back-up.

You revert back to Brown now and it sends the wrong message to Armstead,he needs building up not knocking down.He has been no worse than Brown this season barring the first half in Carolina(more expeirenced tackles have been abused there).He is the future LT and should be started as im more inclined to expected a break out performance from Armstead than Brown.
We do not know how good Armstead could be but we do know how bad Brown is.


I have no issue with the comments,the comments are fine the media will whip it up with headlines. He is trying to get into Armsteads head and if cant handle it he has no future in the league as a starting LT.If Junior and Cam Jordan were not thinking the same going up against a inexperienced tackle id be dissapointed

Most of the time, the "chipping" player is a RB or TE and are the hot route after-wards. By the time, Drew gets through his other reads the "chipping" player is already running his route and Drew hits him down-low if no one else is open...
