shadowdrinker, maybe I should explain why neither of these guys got jobs last year and why the rule was changed. theye were both allowed to interiew in the first week of the playoffs cause they had a bye, and during the wild card round. The Superbowl was in February and free agency started the beginning of March with the draft in April. No team is their season was over and they were out of the playoffs wants to wait until after the Superbowl in Feb. to negotiate a contract with a coach who may or may not agree with what they want to pay them after only one interview. SO teams hired coaches who were available and Weiss and Crennel went on to win the superbowl with no head coaching vacancies left. The league this year has extened the interview process during the playoffs an extra week into the divisional round so this will nto happen again and everyone has a full chance to get an opportunity.

So long story short they did not get jobs last year cause their team won the superbowl and it would be idiotic for a team to try and continue the hiring process of a new coach only two weeks or so before free agency. How would a coach get to fully evaluate a team\'s needs? Hope this explains it for you.

there\'s not a coach alive who could come in here right now and make us winners...and there are few guys who leave as coordinators..and do a great job the first time out of the gates...
I disagree with this wholeheartedly.

if we don\'t sign a big name...nfl head coach...who knows what it takes..from experience to take a squashed team..and make them legit...our chances are very slight that we will be a playoff team any time in the next 4 - 5 years..
Again, I disagree. Ditka was a big name, how did he do here? Haslett was a nobody, and while he isn\'t the answer he\'s a lot better than Ditka, no?

I\'ll tell you what - you name all of the current head coaches who you think are really successful right now that were successful as a head coach somewhere else first. Once you do that, I\'ll name all the coordinators that have been successful in their first post. We\'ll see who has more.

Next, which \"big name\" NFL coach do you want? Johnson? Mora? Who else do you see as a better option?

current head coaches..ok..lets see..i like dennis green in arizona...i think capers did a heck of a job with the texans although he is now gone...dungy has had success in indy....kansas city is happy with vermiel...look at detroit...mooch is doing great...schotenmiehmer sp? is looking good in san diego..even tampa bay went to the superbowl with chucky...seattle has been contenders with holmgrensp?...so yeah..about..7 teams?...and thats just right now..i could go way back

and..if you really think there is a head coach out here who could walk in today and make this team winners...heck..you could even pick any coach ever..from any team..live or dead...just to make it more interesting...there\'s not one...what we have is a team with a bunch of guys who were drafted because they could run 3 tenths of a second faster than someone else...and thats just the plain truth of it...

and yes..i do want johnson in here..he won a national championship.. and two super bowls...he made dallas the team of the nineties..after they were one of the worst teams for years...we\'ve been one of the worst teams in any sport franchise ever...don\'t just hope for more..demand it...

okay man...i can see your point...sort of..but..these guys you speak of are professionals..they have to evaluate a teams needs on a weekly basis..making plans..counter plans...filling in spots..thats what they do...if owners were totally sold on these guys last year..they would be coaches..period...there sold now..and you can bet one if not both will be gone...these guys watch film religiously..they know what teams have what strengths and weaknessess before they ever step foot on the field...it doesn\'t take them long to evaluate talent...or see what needs to be changed..they make mid game shifts all the time...so to say that wouldn\'t have ample time to evaluate i team i think is wrong... all these guys do is football..a couple of weeks is more than enough time to work out a contract...if both sides want it to happen..and that just wasn\'t the case .. i find it hard to believe that there is not enough time to hire a coach from the time the superbowl ends , to the time the draft starts...cuz f.a. lasts all year..and trades last till week 6 ...but..regardless..benson will likely tighten up on the old money jar..and we will be left with haslett...all together..i think we all are just frustrated with the way things have went for us the past few years..and we should be...but i really don\'t think anyone of us is entirely right..or wrong..myself included
