I have become a big believer in Mickey Loomis. He may only be a numbers guy, but he seems to have a very good handle on the long term. As long as the "football guys" are working the draft and UDFAs like they have been doing Loomis should be able to keep taking care of the big contract guys until Brees retires and they have to blow it all up. |

On your reply to lee, we have way too much talent to blow our offense up, even with out Drew Brees. Over the next 3-5 years you are going to see us get younger so that a new QB steps onto the field with experienced veterans of our system. So me a blow up is a one year regime change... coaches and all. Now, where did you pull 8m cap increase? The article says 4m and from what I have heard it will be in that neighborhood as the 290m will be divided between the 32 teams but its is not a direct transfer, there is a formula involved and advertising on two networks amongst other things comes out of that. |

Re: Cap going way up in 2015
Really well run organizations let players go a year or two before its obvious, and don't grossly overpay for mediocre players.
The only complaint I have about Loomis is that he tends to overpay for our own free-agents and keeps players that could be replaced with a cheaper younger version. Yeah I know I'm nit-picking. I think Loomis is a top 10 GM in the NFL, maybe even top 5, but no one is perfect. I'd be a bit disappointed if we managed to keep everyone at the expense of even greater cap problems down the road. A part of me hopes to see us part ways with a few overpaid older players. It would demonstrate that Mickey isn't afraid to make tough, even unpopular decisions. Does that make sense? |
