Rumor: Saban to replace Haslett???
I posted about this in the Why we should fire Haslett now thread. If Saban is gonna get interest from Miami, why the hell wouldn\'t we throw our hat into the ring? Saban is a god in Louisiana now, and if the fans will follow anyone it will be him. Don\'t we feel like Saban is now one of our own? Who would disagree with him being the next head coach? Get rid of Haslett and let the rumor mill spin!!!!!

Rumor: Saban to replace Haslett???
i\'ll tell you why we shouldn\'t pursue saban..we don\'t need to be the experiment team any longer...no college coaches no coordinators..we need a proven nfl head coach...nothing less will do in my opinion... get jimmy johnson in here...i will continue to preach that till it happens..if it doesn\'t..i will be the annoying one in the cheapseats screaming how we should have pursued johnson...flat out..there is not a better candidate right now..and likely won\'t be by the end of the year...we need coordinators..but not to coach the entire team...it just doesn\'t work for us...we need a guy who knows how to run a practice...knows what to do to make guys better...we need proven leadership...and proven talent evaluation...johnson has both...he\'s our man..

Rumor: Saban to replace Haslett???
Shadow - I think your logic may be slightly skewed. All good head coaches start as coordinators and college coaches. From what I\'ve seen, raiding the pantry of perinial powerhouses has worked better than promoting from the college ranks. Look at all the great head coaches that came from under Walsh and Parcells (even Ditka ). Conversely, how many coaches were able to make one team really sucessful and then do it somewhere else? Johnson couldn\'t. Siefert couldn\'t. Ditka couldn\'t. The only one I can think of who did it in more than one place as a head coach right now is Parcells. Jimmy Johnson isn\'t the answer, although I would definitely entertain the idea of bringing Fisher in if he gets fired in Tennessee. Otherwise, coordinators are probably your best bet. |

you can\'t really lay that miami thing on johnson though..he wasn\'t allowed to bench marino..you all remember how that went down..marino ran the dolphins...jimmy just kinda stepped aside..that wasn\'t jimmy\'s fault

That doesn\'t change the fact that coaches rarely do it in more than one place.

BMG.
Are you serious? Maybe you should read Patriot Reign and see how awful Cleveland was for Belichek. He has only taken the Pats to two Superbowl wins and Saban is a disciple. Maybe the Pats should have just remembered Cleveland and not given him a job. Didn\'t LSU win a national title last year? Did anyone predict them to do so before the year started(besides the usual homers)? So maybe LSU should never have hired Saban and not won a national title. If good coaches can\'t shake off bad coaching stints and be allowed to shine elsewhere then what is the point? Everyone should just take green rookie coaches who have never had success or failure anywhere and put them in. Surely you don\'t want this? |

I\'m used to this team going .500, let\'s go ahead and hire Saban and spend 3 years arguing over how it is or isn\'t his fault.

Well, we all agree the current state of the team is largely the current coaching staff\'s fault right? And we all agree it is time for a change right? Saban is not only a good coach, but he will put butts in the seats. Tell me fans won\'t be excited to see the man who resurrected LSU at the helm of the Saints. Ticket sales stay up, Saints don\'t leave. And Belichek still consults with Saban even after winning superbowls so I doubt he will let the Saints fall into the same problems as Haslett has. If bill Belichek respects his opinion, I think I will too.
