Brooks basher says give him another chance
Okay -- maybe I have been too hard on Brooks these past few years. I say - give him another chance with another coach. Maybe its all Haslett's fault. I mean - he managed to destroy Deuce's productivity and no one will ever convinve me Deuce does not have heart, passion, talent, or doesn't give 100% each and every play. The defense certainly has talent but they blow. Maybe Hazbeen is the total problem. Maybe the players are laughing on the sidelines at the pathetic coaching. Maybe we need another coach to see if our team's talent can move from potential to play. In any case -- I have seen improvement in Brooks despite Hazbeen's coaching. Fire the coach and give the team a chance :casstet:

Yep -- sounds strange but the more I watch the saints the more I am starting to believe its all coaching/. 1. Hazbeen allows bonehead plays like to continue -- If, early in his career, Brooks would have been benched after some of the stuff he was pulling maybe he would play a little smarter.

Brooks basher says give him another chance
I\'ve been one of the biggest critics of AB over the last few years, but this preseason I found myself saying AB might go to the Pro Bowl - what gives? Well, for one, I thought that with Haslett getting the heat, instead of AB, he might finally be able to relax and play calm smarter ball. More importantly, I thought it would be real hard not to put up monster numbers with the skill players we\'ve got. Horn, Stallworth, Pathon, et. al., Boo, Conwell, Deuce, Stecker.... Other than Indy and Minnesota, I don\'t know if I can name another team with as much raw talent and depth at skill positions as the Saints.
I understand people wanting to give AB another chance. I also understand people saying that it hasn\'t all been his fault. He HAS had terrible play calling, his WRs DO drop passes, and his line has been less than stellar this year (though they were pretty good in the past). But I find myself hesitating. It sure seems to me AB has a lot of the same problems that I reamed him for two and three years ago. He\'s not a leader and he certainly doesn\'t have football smarts. That hasn\'t changed IMO. He is still very inconsistent and seems to be prepared for only one out of every two or three games. He does dumb things when pressured, though he has gotten somewhat better. I just see this guy\'s head and arm as more of a curse than a blessing. He doesn\'t use his legs nearly at all anymore, he\'s not even that elusive in avoiding the rush and buying time to throw, so the \"athletic QB\" point seems moot to me. He throws a thousand miles an hour whether he\'s throwing a 5 yard in, 15 yard out, or 45 yard skinny post. He just doesn\'t have much touch and can\'t consistently put the ball where the WRs need it. I don\'t seem him reading defenses and IDing an audible or hot route all that often, and when he does the changed play usually fails. Maybe that\'s system, I honestly don\'t know. Point is - given the rumors of problems with teammates, the ties to JH and this coaching staff, and his mental shortcomings, I would probably look to find a new guy to take over under center... but that\'s just one man\'s opinion. |

you also have to remember ..the coaching staff did everything they could do to put the best brooks possible on the field this year..they worked hard with him..got him some good recievers..even paid for leadership classes.whatever those are...you can\'t say its just the coaching..and i know some of us disagree on this..but..i think its the whole team..inside and out...we should have known though..i mean..leadership classes?...that says that noone knows what to do to fix the problem..and they\'re grabbing at straws...

I say its time for a change. But for maybe different reasons that the Brooks-haters have. This team definitely needs a new identity. A teams identity is usually associated with the head coach and the QB, or your stud RB or WR. Deuce isn\'t going anywhere so its gotta be Haz and Brooks.
Brooks isn\'t happy with the way he\'s been treated here, justified or not. A significant number of fans don\'t want him here, justified or not. I think a deal can be worked out with someone somewhere that could benefit both teams. A good GM could easily work something out. I look at the success other teams have had bringing in veteran free-agent QB\'s over the last few years (Warner, Kitna, Griese, Plummer, Garcia, Delhomme, etc ) and I can\'t help but think we\'d be fine. Of course we could end up with a Testeverde, Brunnell, or Collins also so there is a risk. I\'ve also seen coaching changes that have resulted in drastic turn-arounds involving teams with much less talent than we have top to bottom, like the Giants and Falcons. So I think a change at Coach (and staff) and QB doesn\'t necessarily mean 2 or 3 years of re-building anymore. Heck, Haslett took over a truly pathetic 3-13 Saints team that was ranked dead last, and took them to an improbable playoff win. But if we do end up losing Brooks and acquiring Drew Brees, there will be no containing 08! We\'ll hear about it for 8 years. He\'ll be walking around with a Gilbert Brown lookin head for a year. |

If we lose Brooks and get Drew Brees, that alone would mean we have a new coaching staff and that would pretty much ensure a playoff spot, provided the majority of the other talent is kept around. No way would we be re-building, I agree. That situation can\'t be seen as anything but win-win.

What I wonder is, what\'s up with the new cocky-a$$ attitude ol\' AB\'s been sporting lately? The grinning as he steps off the field after one of his innumerable screw-ups? The \"who cares\" attitude regardless of our pitiful record? I don\'t think we\'re the only ones who should be angry with AB, IMHO he\'s letting his teammates down as well. I hate to sound narrow-minded, but if this guy wants out let\'s buy him a ticket on the next Greyhound. Talented or not, I don\'t want a QB who doesn\'t want the job...

The coaches should have let Charles Grant beat Brook\'s *** on the plane ride back from Arizona. Maybe that would have knocked some, if any, sense into him!!
