D'Qwell Jackson - LB

Jeff Duncan thinks we should pursue this guy. What do you think? Seems fairly average to me.

Not been watching the sports news, didnt realise that he had been released.
Would he even fit with Lofton as a pairing?

Re: D'Qwell Jackson - LB

Decent player but I don't know how much of an upgrade he would be. I think the "would add leadership" is getting a little old.

I've loved that dude. That said, not as much now that he's on the wrong side of 30. A few years too late to the party Duncan.

Re: D'Qwell Jackson - LB

This would've been a great signing about 3 years ago. Something wrong with Lofton and Hawthorne though? Sometimes I think Jeff Duncan is out of touch with common sense.

It seems like every guy we sign is a great locker room guy and a leader.

I'll bet we have 40 plus leaders on this team.

Yeah, the whole "would add leadership" angle is as played out as the expression "played out". :p

Saints connection; he played for Rob Ryan in Cleveland.

I thought he was just 30..... Isn't he allowed to age first before we say he's on the wrong side of 30

Re: D'Qwell Jackson - LB

We pursued him a couple years back when we tried for lofton .. He'd be a beautiful addition IMO with lofton and Hawthorne , they all thump and dare I say I saw lofton making some nice plays in coverage , do I'm sure he would hold up just fine? Why not ? What lb are we going to draft or ding that's better than him ?

Lord_Saint83 02-26-2014 06:36 PM

Re: D'Qwell Jackson - LB

I think it would be a solid addition even just for depth if need be. 141 tackles sounds good and he knows Rob's system still I'm sure. For a low contract roll the dice.

K Major 02-26-2014 06:43 PM

Re: D'Qwell Jackson - LB

Can he run from sideline to sideline in a heartbeat and make a play? This is something we are lacking at the LB position.

ChrisXVI 02-26-2014 06:45 PM

Re: D'Qwell Jackson - LB

I suppose he'd be an upgrade over Hawthorne but I don't think it would be worth it. He'll get good money to be a starter somewhere.

Danno 02-26-2014 06:46 PM

Re: D'Qwell Jackson - LB

I'm not convinced he's any better than Lofton or Hawthorne.

Re: D'Qwell Jackson - LB

Hawthorne is underrated. This season I was more impressed with him than Lofton. Don't get me wrong I liked Lofton also.

Re: D'Qwell Jackson - LB

They are saying 7 teams are already expressing strong interest in him. There's going to be a bidding war for him and if he's coming in here to rotate with Lofton and Hawthorne, I'm not sure we need enter that auction.

Don't the Browns seem smart. /sarcasm.

I agree. Lofton has lost a step and Hawthorne is below average. Would like to see us get Borland from Wisconsin. IMO he's the Kuechly type of linebacker/defensive quarterback we need.

Jack Vegas 02-26-2014 10:13 PM

LOL. Hawthorne is not "below average". Sometimes I wonder what games some of you people are watching.

He's solid. Not the stud I thought he was though. Same for Lofton.

Re: D'Qwell Jackson - LB

Our defense was 4th overall , that's with our offense doing nothing half the season ( away ) ... Only behind Seattle San Fran and Carolina all have exceptional lb play ... You're telling me we don't have above average production from the lb core ?

wtf? Lofton is only 27, he hasn't 'lost a step' he's just never been that fast.

Crusader 02-27-2014 02:00 AM

Re: D'Qwell Jackson - LB

Everybody is always talking abou fast. Sur eit would be nice to have a guy like Urlacher in his prime but those guys are rare. Has everyone forgotten we basically had a track-team under Haslett but that very few of them guys could play football on an NFL level?

Re: D'Qwell Jackson - LB

We could at the least bring him into camp, he is a 3-4 guy. If he would be as good as Lofton we could save a lot of money!!

Re: D'Qwell Jackson - LB

We cannot cut Lofton this year. His deas money is $8ml this year and $5ml next.

Re: D'Qwell Jackson - LB

every year they say the same thing about him and every year he put up solid numbers year in and year out. kick the tires and if all is ok work out a short term deal. i can live with it

But we'll never get there re-signing other teams retreads, particularly on defense, all the time because it's the safe move...

We had safe under Mora, and that get's you an early exit in the playoffs...

Well, 2009 our 3 LB's were Vilma 27, Fujita 30 and Shanle 30 and all were from another team with only Vilma being a starter before. So I wouldn't say we can't get there signing other teams retreads. It just depends on how much rubber is left.

And we had the ultimate cast-offs in Drew Brees and Darren Shraper,

I'd rather give Humber more playing time. Reddick too for that matter.

Not so much fast but instinctive. If you watch some of his tape and isolate Dqwell's tackles, he reacts FAST and is very physical. Same goes for the LB's in Carolina and Seattle.
