The assumption Train (please don't ride)

Try not to take a ride on the assumption train this weekend. You'll enjoy your time more.

If you have kids you'll understand this completely.

WE do not know what happened or why it happened. Neither does Graham and his juvenile tweets but that's another story.

The majority of the fans think these cuts are because of cap space... That's plausible.

What if I told you Loomis/Payton decided to fulfill your requests and make this team nasty, power running, bigger more physical receivers.... Make us less predictable. Would you still be upset if these cuts were because we are going in a different direction? Can't do that with the same 2013 pieces.

What is I told you that a Super Bowl has left the taste of victory in Benson/Loomis/Payton's mouths and it's been 4 years since we won one. Meaning the post 2009 blue print didn't work and they recognize that 2010-2012 wasn't the recipe for success?

What if I told you Loomis asked ALL of those guys to take a pay cut and they all said "NO".

These are all plausible scenarios and many of them are for a better out come. I know some of you don't like change, I'm not a big fan of it either some times, but the combination of Sean Payton and Mickey Loomis is not one that has ever left me feeling like I would rather have anyone else as the mechanics of this franchise.

I have no problem believing what you said, in fact it's the first thing that came to mind.

DC's caught up to Payton so now he is reacting. Not to mention how tough the NFC South has become...

I think we should all be excited about the possibility of what's to come.

Sean, with new toys is a team no one will want to face.

The NFC is a monster period. Completely dominated on defense.

Sean Payton runs a top fuel race car. Always a tweak and a part change between runs. Because winning is about the stars aligning and you being prepared when it happens.

Not only am I not overreacting, over hear with as little time as I've had to post ( family is here to attend Texas Rodeo ) I can see the forest through the trees a mile away. Im applauding, many of my family members who are saints fans are not.... You want to get the most out of your aging QB, get him a power running game and a aggressive dominating defense.....

Oak once again hits it on the nose. I agree with your sentiments. Its possible that this group has reached its peak and change is necessary for us to KEEP winning. I think its important to remember that when most teams have these cap issues they start to struggle in the standings. However, we are coming off a solid season. The division is getting stronger and as a team the Saints need to make moves to stay on top.

Lets see what this week brings...

Re: The assumption Train (please don't ride)

Great post. I think this is exactly what they are doing. To be the best you have to be willing to change to beat the best. Right now the best seems to be the Seattles and SF's of the NFL. The offense you describe is exactly the kind of offense that along with our defense can go toe to toe with Seattle. More emphasis on the run and longer more sustained drives will also take some pressure of Brees as he gets older and passed his prime. Might even give him an extra year. I would not be surprised if we made a bigger splash in FA than most people expect either.

Re: The assumption Train (please don't ride)

multi million dollar QB top paid TE getting Colston type of money what did yall think would happen? cuts and names of players dear to us all. major voids to be filled. we all knew this was going to be an issue down the road when drew got superman money in that contract. Jimmy threw a monkey wrench in there. we knew we might have the steal of the draft and in no way did any one think he would develop into the top TE in the NFL.

so cuts will hurt and they are and will be deep.

Big question now is how do you get out of colstons contract and when?
