I like the idea of buying low on Rice, and drafting a receiver in round one.

Re: Saints Considering Sidney Rice

Why sign Rice when we just released Moore?!?

Stills is an ascending player and you have a player in Toon or a probable draft pick who will need those invaluable reps to develop...

We could have signed a better, inexpensive option in Hakeem Nicks to a one year prove it option...

But I geaux back to too many receivers inhibit development by limiting reps...

Believe one of the biggest reasons Colston did so well because he got the reps to develop...

Come on SP always has a soft spot for that home run hitter with all the flash and dash. a game changer that allows SP to go deep into the play book and pull out the cutest neatest plays.

Saints considering Rice means Saints don't have a lot of money left to spend.

I like Rice and all but with his injury history I just don't know if he is worth the risk.

I'm not seeing the risk here. He's likely a vet minimum player with a huge upside.

Exactly. He'll only take away reps from a younger guy if in fact he looks better then the younger guy. If he doesn't produce, he gets cut. No money loss. No cap hit. I'm pretty sure his contract wouldn't include guaranteed money.

The risk is that he beats out a good younger guy in camp that ends up somewhere else and then he gets injured. I'd rather take a slightly lesser player if he is younger and with a better injury history.

I agree.

Rice is arguably a top 10 WR in the league when healthy. The problem is, a healthy Sidney Rice is pretty much an oxymoron. I think it's worth the risk though. He won't cost that much, and like others have said, if he doesn't pan out just cut him. It's no biggie.

Hell, I wouldn't be opposed to signing Rice and then STILL drafting a WR in the first.
