Saints re-sign Joe Morgan
Saints re-sign Joe Morgan Posted by Michael David Smith on March 18, 2014, 6:16 PM EDT Joe Morgan, Drew Brees AP We noted this morning that free agent receiver Joe Morgan had removed a potential obstacle to finding a job by entering a diversion program to resolve a 2013 DWI charge. Hours later, Morgan has found himself a new job. The Saints have announced that Morgan has signed a one-year contract to remain in New Orleans. The 25-year-old Morgan has played his entire career for the Saints, who signed him as anundrafted free agent in 2011. Morgan has played sparingly, but he has shown big-play ability with the few chances he has received: He has only caught 10 passes in his career, but he has a whopping 379 receiving yards and three touchdowns on those 10 catches. Last year Morgan missed the entire season after suffering a knee injury in training camp. If Morgan can get back to full speed this year, he may be ready to make some big plays in the Saints’ passing game. Saints re-sign Joe Morgan | ProFootballTalk |
Re: Saints re-sign Joe Morgan
Really good news if he can stay healthy. It took Ivory 4 seasons, maybe its Joe's turn.
By my calcs we're now 2 dollars under the cap!:p |
Re: Saints re-sign Joe Morgan
When he's healthy he can be a great player, he showed all the potential in the world in 2012
If he can stay healthy our WR core will be young and deadly |
Re: Saints re-sign Joe Morgan
Well its restructuring time now to sign rooks and possibly Jimmy.
|
Re: Saints re-sign Joe Morgan
If he's still got his speed we are in business.

Re: Saints re-sign Joe Morgan
10 catches 400 yds. Exactly what the Saints need to either stretch the field or turn a 5yd curl into a 60 yd TD. Potential to be Joe Horn type player.

Re: Saints re-sign Joe Morgan
sweet - Morgan made some big plays and wasn't afraid of contact staying in bounds
|
Re: Saints re-sign Joe Morgan
I think this means we aren't going to resign Meachem. Morgan can easily take Meach's place if he remains healthy.
Good signing :bng: |

Re: Saints re-sign Joe Morgan
Welcome back... though I think we pretty much knew it was a given. Let's go earn that next contract Joe.

Re: Saints re-sign Joe Morgan
What about Andy? Muah hah hah haaaa.....
|
Re: Saints re-sign Joe Morgan
as long as he calls and cab instead of sleeping along the side of the road we should be good

There's our kick returner.

Re: Saints re-sign Joe Morgan
Happy to see this.

Re: Saints re-sign Joe Morgan
I think most of us were hoping for this when it was announced that he wouldn't be tendered by the Saints... way to save some cap and to minimize the financial loss if he doesn't stay healthy.

Re: Saints re-sign Joe Morgan
Is Tanner the new Lance Moore?

Re: Saints re-sign Joe Morgan
I have never been that exciting about Morgan. Still aren't.

Re: Saints re-sign Joe Morgan
I liked what I saw in the small sample size of 2012. Missing last year has to hurt somewhat. Lets hope he is ready to take on a bigger role this year.

Re: Saints re-sign Joe Morgan
If we don't sign Rice we'll get a couple of speedy receivers in the 5 and 6th rounds. DE, DT, OL, CB the first 4 rounds and maybe move up in the second and use our extra 5th to do it.

Re: Saints re-sign Joe Morgan
I'm glad to hear he's back with team

Re: Saints re-sign Joe Morgan
He has got to stay healthy, star potential if he does.

Re: Saints re-sign Joe Morgan
Three more seasons, 10 more receptions.
Not a fan of this at all, if we are moving on enough to release Moore then we have moved on passes Morgan and his injuries. |
Re: Saints re-sign Joe Morgan
I honestly expected Morgan to be cut.
|
Re: Saints re-sign Joe Morgan
The difference is, Moore was going to cost 4 million or something. Morgan costs the minimum salary and if he can't hack it, he's cut and we lose nothing.

Haven't seen the offer yet, so I was going off of just the re-sign. |
Re: Saints re-sign Joe Morgan
Keep in mind, he may have been on IR, and not on the field, but the guy was in all the meetings, studied the same film, and had the same playbook to learn, probably even prepared for opponents just like the players did...at bargain basement prices Morgan is probably a better pickup than just someone random off the street.... Players on IR don't go off into a vacuum or sit on a couch somewhere; they are generally WITH the team for the entire campaign....I'm sure the year off was not a total loss for him, in terms of NFL experience. Something to think about anyway.

Re: Saints re-sign Joe Morgan
he's one of our better ball instinct receivers, has that ability to know where the ball is, short or over his head. good hands people, whats not to like, yes hes been hurt but who hasn't been. the man earned a spot on the roster for a reason and he was brought back for a reason. if Malcom Jenkins had half of ball instinct ability of morgans he would have never been let go.

Re: Saints re-sign Joe Morgan
I like the decision to bring him back. He has experience with the team like SaintsBro mentioned and showed great signs in those games he played. He cant be too expensive and hopefully he will stay healthy and show he deserved to be resigned.

Re: Saints re-sign Joe Morgan
My pause has nothing to do with missed or lack of experience or being injured for 1 season.
It had everything to do with three seasons in the NFL and not one full healthy one. You could have Jerry Rice in his prime under contract but if he can't get out if the whirlpool it's a bad signing. Obviously standing on the sideline making $555k is not a total loss for a player, it is however a total loss for the team. A healthy Joe Blow off the street that can play is more valuable than a Joe Morgan on the sidelines. |
