New Orleans Saints veteran free agent center Brian de la Puente is visiting the Washington Redskins, according to a league source.

The Redskins recently cut center Will Montgomery.

Other teams that remain strong possibilities for de la Puente include the New Orleans Saints, the Denver Broncos, the New York Giants and the New England Patriots.

The 28-year-old is a former Cal standout who has started every game for the past two seasons.

He has started 44 of 48 career games.

He has previous stints with the Kansas City Chiefs, San Francisco 49ers and Carolina Panthers.

The 6-foot-3, 306-pounder played last season under a $2.023 million restricted free agent tender.

Yeah I like to see him gone.

He's really not as bad as this forum makes him out to be in my opinion. He's not a great center or anything but he's not a liability. Just solid, which is fine.

We could bring back in Goodwin for cheap if he wants to finish here and retire a Saint.

Yeah, I wish we had someone a little more proven to set to take his place before he leaves but I guess the business doesn't work like that.

Goodwin is done. Washed up. He'd be a downgrade. I'm good with Lelito, who filled in very well at guard a couple times last year, or a rookie. I wouldn't even mind going center in the 3rd round if it meant we got the best one available.

Let Washington have him. Draft a stud C.

It's not us that got him bowled over by good defenses. He's an average center in front of a HOF QB.

I agree, I don't think he's the POS that people here are making him out to be. He was steady and solid...no major f'ups that I recall.

Not the best, but certainly not bad.

Brian, don't you know what kind of a mess Washington is in?

Good Luck and we'll see ya.

Goodwin wasn't the center for our O to begin with.

dlp wasn't terrible . He was decent considering he was a well traveled journey man. He just wasn't the mauler we need.

As Sapper said The Skins are a mess he should look elsewhere.

Unless someone whispered in his ear to start shopping a new job, this is a BONEHEAD move on his part.

You MIGHT be remembered as a Center if you make the Hall of Fame.
You stand an outside chance of being remembered by home city fans if you get a Ring.

You stand NO CHANCE of being remembered if you move to a losing team from a consistent Super Bowl contender without being shown the door.

DLP was not a liability this year.

At times this past season he certainly was a liability. He allowed inside pressure, which as we know is a killer for Brees and he had some problems lining up the guys next to him...

Still, the Saints could do worse than DLP, but I'm hoping they find a way to upgrade the center position.

DLP was a weakness that you would have to have played OL to understand. His short comings stressed positions around him including but not limited to QB.

He is not trying to go to a new team for any reason other than he has no team right now and needs a job. UFA means unemployed until he finds a job.

You didn't need to be a former OL to see him getting blown off the line of scrimmage far too frequently. I just hope we are able to find a replacement that is an improvement.

When you see Drew getting delay of game penalties because he is identifying the Mike in addition to calling out audibles to his WR and RBs, that is the Cs job. Center controls the OL.

If a Center is playing at that level, he generally knows what he's doing...

Most delays are because of delays from the sidelines because formations, plays are called from the sidelines...

That's not to say that an inexperienced Center misses a read and gets the ball carrier hammered...

Huddle calls are made from the sidelines. Post break, pre snap are called at the line.

In regards to who "knows" what they are doing, I'll take a risk here and side with Brees and Payton over a center that is going to his 8th team IF he is picked up.

Re: Source: Brian de la Puente visiting the Redskins

DLP wasn't a liability, but he was certainly no asset. He was merely serviceable.

IMO he should be relatively easy to replace with at least a comparable Center and more than likely a better one.

With a HOF QB and two pro-bowl guards on either side, he should have looked like a top 5. I think thats why his better than average PFF grades are very misleading.

Also if you are hiking the ball and your QB doesn't know what the hell is going on... it isn't the QB.
