Saints sign S Marcus Ball
The New Orleans Saints announced today that they have agreed to terms with safety Marcus Ball on a three-year contract. The announcement was made by Saints’ Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis.
Ball, 6-1, 209, played two seasons with the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League after finishing his college career at the University of Memphis. In two seasons with Toronto, he recorded 142 tackles, seven sacks, four interceptions, two returned for touchdowns and three fumble recoveries. In 2013, Ball posted 69 stops, four sacks and three interceptions for the Argonauts. The Atlanta native played his final two college seasons for the Tigers as their starting free safety, recording 66 tackles (35 solo) and two interceptions as a senior in 2010. He started his career at Florida State where he appeared in 13 games in 2006 and 2007 and then transferred to Memphis after playing the 2008 season at Pearl River (Miss.) Community College. Overall in four seasons with the Seminoles and Tigers, he ended his college career with 145 tackles (73 solo), five interceptions and one sack. It's hard to say how good he will be for us, because I know the competition isn't up to the standards of the NFL in the CFL, but from what I've seen of this guy... he looks rather impressive. Wouldn't be surprised if this is another diamond in the rough signing, where the guy performs much higher than the expectations.
