Bunkley Restructures, paycut
|
Re: Bunkley Restructures, paycut
Looks like a pretty huge cut to me
|
Re: Bunkley Restructures, paycut
That was inevitable. Surprised he took less money for this year but that's awesome!
|
Re: Bunkley Restructures, paycut
Big pay cut. He must want that championship.
|
Re: Bunkley Restructures, paycut
Glad he's a team player, solid run stuffer, he and john jenkins formed a good rotation
|
Re: Bunkley Restructures, paycut
Welcome to Magic Kingdom.
The star of the (salary cap) show is as always - Mickey! |
Re: Bunkley Restructures, paycut
He saw the writing on the wall. Big John Jenkins and Hicks are the starters now... can't pay a backup 4 million dollars.

Re: Bunkley Restructures, paycut
Somewhere a Falcons fan are reaching for his medication.

The NFL needs to investigate... The saints are clearly cheating lol. |
Re: Bunkley Restructures, paycut
Not just a restructure, but less (way less) money.
Loomis is a genius, and give BB credit for knowing his value. Little strange that Bunkley gave of $3.5 this year- he was holding all the cards the countdown for the Graham deal is on |

Re: Bunkley Restructures, paycut
Glad we worked something out. Bunkley is a very good NT.
|
Re: Bunkley Restructures, paycut
also, Bunkley knows that if he didn't restructure he ran a pretty big risk of being a June 1 cut, and the way things are for veterans anymore, there's no way he was going to get anything close to 4.4 million/year on the open market.
The tradeoff for the Saints of course is that they are basically committed to him for at least 2015, since they can't restructure two years in a row and cutting him would be a massive dead money hit. |

No... He's only getting a $300,000 signing bonus. It was a true pay cut. |

This way we have money now, and taking a three year average, he now makes $3.5 mill annually |

You can't just cut people's salary. Base salary is guaranteed. They can restructure it into signing bonus, but you can't just say "you're taking 2.85 million dollars less this year". It's not allowed. |

LOOOOMISSSS you did it AGAAAAIN........

Edit... Never mind. |
Re: Bunkley Restructures, paycut
Addressed above...I won't pretend to know everything about how this works but I know they can't just "erase" money from the books. It has to be moved around some way or another, whether it's in the form of a signing bonus in a restructure or dead money in an outright release. Think about your high school accounting class or whatever - the debits have to match up with the credits.

And boom goes the dynamite. Got it figured out yet clowns. O yea, we are cheating, thats right.

I think the term "paycut" is misleading here. It's not the players actual "pay" that's getting cut, it's his cap figure. Which obviously has no bearing on the total amount of money he brings home that season. I don't even think it's possible for any of us fans to understand all the ins and outs of the cap. There are so many provisions and loopholes that we don't even know about. |
Re: Bunkley Restructures, paycut
Bunkley won't play hurt anymore at that pay rate...
|
Re: Bunkley Restructures, paycut
Guess we got everything covered with the CAP where are we at now?

We're at about 8 dollars under the cap, so I fully expect Loomis will sign a starting OC and WR soon.:p |

I keep hearing that we're up against the cap wall and then we sign or re-sign someone. Then we're really up against the wall and we sign or re-sign someone else. Then we're in cap ****. Then we sign or re-sign someone else. So just playing along that line.... If Bunkley took a pay cut, we should now be able to sign Mack. |
Re: Bunkley Restructures, paycut
I just checked and after Champs money and before Bush we are 3.1 million under.

Team-friendly contracts for Bunkley, Bailey

The New Orleans Saints have more wiggle room than expected under the salary cap. Defensive tackle Brodrick Bunkley agreed to a pay cut of $2.85 million. And newly-signed cornerback Champ Bailey’s first-year cap cost is only $1.5 million in an incentive-laden two-year contract. Those two deals were officially processed on Wednesday, leaving the Saints with nearly $4 million in cap space. Their new deal for safety Rafael Bush hasn’t been processed yet, though that shouldn't affect New Orleans’ cap figure by more than $1 million or so. Bunkley’s pay cut makes a lot of sense for two reasons. He was originally slated to make $4.5 million in salary and bonuses this year – a lofty price tag considering he has been a part-time player for the Saints the past two years. Last year he finished with only 13 tackles, in part because of a calf injury that sidelined him for four games. However, it also made sense that the Saints didn’t just cut Bunkley outright, since they still believe the 30-year-old can be an asset as a powerful run-stuffer. And he finished last season strong, playing some of his best football in his two-year stint in New Orleans. Bunkley will make a total of $1.65 million this year, including a $300,000 roster bonus due Thursday. The final two years of his five-year contract were not affected, though they will likely have to be addressed again in the future. Saints coach Sean Payton said situations like Bunkley’s play out every year in the NFL. “You go through the numbers, you try to look closely at your roster. There’s some things that go into that,” Payton said. “He’s someone that I think has really kept in good shape. He had the injury earlier in the year. We saw really good signs from him in training camp. He knows the position. We’re excited he re-signed.” Bailey, meanwhile, won’t cost the Saints much unless he performs for them – which is obviously a win-win proposition for the team. Bailey’s two-year deal is worth between $3.75 million and $6.75 million, based on various bonuses and incentives. But only the $500,000 signing bonus is guaranteed. Bailey is due a base salary of $1 million this year, plus another $250,000 roster bonus if he is active for at least six games. In 2015, he is due $2 million in salary and roster bonuses. There is a total of $3 million more in incentives and escalator clauses based on playing time, interceptions and Pro Bowls. The exact thresholds are not known.
