He's still getting his money upfront, it's just not part of his base salary anymore. He's taking $2.85 million lump sum as signing bonus. I wouldn't mind having those kinds of headaches.

No... He's only getting a $300,000 signing bonus. It was a true pay cut.

That's a roster bonus, not his full signing bonus. If I have it figured right the entirety of his signing bonus would be something in the neighborhood of 2.2 million.

You can't just cut people's salary. Base salary is guaranteed. They can restructure it into signing bonus, but you can't just say "you're taking 2.85 million dollars less this year". It's not allowed.
