also, Bunkley knows that if he didn't restructure he ran a pretty big risk of being a June 1 cut, and the way things are for veterans anymore, there's no way he was going to get anything close to 4.4 million/year on the open market.
The tradeoff for the Saints of course is that they are basically committed to him for at least 2015, since they can't restructure two years in a row and cutting him would be a massive dead money hit. |

You can't just cut people's salary. Base salary is guaranteed. They can restructure it into signing bonus, but you can't just say "you're taking 2.85 million dollars less this year". It's not allowed. |
