I have date night with the wife... I have yet to see a bad football movie.

My wife and I seldom agree on which movie to go see. As a result, we never go see movies.

This is one that we've agreed upon, We'll probably go see it next week sometime.

That movie looks awful. As much as I love the draft I can't bring myself to spend the money on seeing it because of how cheesy it looks.

Favorite Costner movies Tin Cup, 3000 Miles to Graceland, No Way Out, The Untouchables, Revenge and Man of Steel, but he's got the potential to turn in some disasters too...

The Postman, Waterworld, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves...oh my...

Though the DraftDay trailer showing the snip of his Mom tipping his hand to SportCenter via Twitter looks promising after having to endure the bore known as Chris Berman...

Cautiously Optimistic...

Captain America: The Winter Soldier IMAX3D with my daughter is our first choice...

And how awesome is she?!? Said she'd do a double and go see it so Dad can laugh at who Hollywood picks for the Saints and Falcons...Love My Girl...

I'm sure Costner isn't the problem.

Re: Draft Day (Movie)

Cheesy huh?

The NFL draft we all watch is the cheesiest production I have seen in a long while. 4 days of horse trading humans dressed in bad suits and covered in bling. Once picked they glad hand the villain Roger Goodell while dawned in a pimped out cap worn incorrectly and a jersey with no name. A gala even where college students celebrate their first employment in a field they did not major in while in College.

Cheesy huh? Anyone ever look at the filmography of Mark Hamil? other than Star Wars (Greatest movie ever) it is filled with movies like Corvette Summer...

LOL! Movie critics that have yet to see the movie they are critiquing... :bng:

Yes, Costner sports movies epitomize cheese. Each film has to have that little soliloquy where we learn how sports are a metaphor for life. Love it, hate it, it all comes down to your preference

I stopped watching the draft several years ago, right after it became a major media production. Now I get an alert when we are picking and tune in for 3 minutes every hour.

Movie review writers getting bribed for good reviews ?

Wish I could find the video of reviewers (with many having no education or background) being wined, dined et al and then writing their reviews...

This is the same industry who so cavalierly opines and uses our money to influence our political process that is corrupt as they are...

An entire industry of "critiquing" is snake oil to me... Just from the mindset that there are opinions that are paid for having to do with Art and Entertainment which are completely subjective and personal preference.

Ever watched Chopped on Food Network? I love the defensive "well that is the way I like it" responses to someone being told their flank steak is over cooked.

Its all judging and beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Some people like a thick dark almost gravy-like gumbo, some like a thinner lighter soup-like gumbo. If you get one of each on a judging panel, who knows what will win.

BTW... Tin Cup, 3000 Miles to Graceland, both excellent movies, both somewhat cheesy but that doesn't mane cheesy a bad thing. :bng:

Saw the trailer, loved what I saw. I'm definitely checking it out.

The internet is full of wanna-be movie critics who lambast everything that comes out in an attempt to sound intelligent. I'm fully convinced that if Citizen Kane or The Godfather came out today there'd be a thousand people telling us how terrible it is. I can judge for myself if a movie is any good or not, thank you very much.

Re: Draft Day (Movie)

I don't mind decently made "B" grade movies sometimes. I enjoyed The Postman and hey, Bull Durham was good. I like the movie costner made where he no hits the Yankees and use that line from the movie when he says "clear the mechanism" in my day to day. Lol. Is there something wrong with that? Lotta hate up in here. :brood:

District 9 had some rave reviews... I left after the first 30 minutes.

DRAFT DAY - Official Theatrical TRAILER [HD] - 2014 - YouTube

If you get past the actors and the acting, the story about the NFL being a business and a production, then a sport is what most fans cant get their heads wrapped around. I am taking my wife so she understands why some players are traded and why some others are signed.

So you'll get the actual draft and a real NFL game before you can see a movie about the draft.

Makes sense.

It's probably due to a lack of interest from theaters.

Yes, no way enough people in England would be interested in the ins and outs of American football. Same is true here- there are a lot of good futbol movies that were probably never released in the US- Damned United and Fever Pitch were good films

It wouldnt be a popular film over here but i was hoping that with the NFL being behind the film they would have asked for a small release in some theatres in major cities.I was hoping i would get to see it in London or a NFL backed screening.

Honestly. I don't see the NFL limiting the distribution intentionally. Not considering how much they are considering putting a team there. The movie would serve as a small gage.

Re: Draft Day (Movie)

Don't always agree with Vinnie Iyer, but this is a good read of fact vs fiction...

"Draft Day": The commissioner is cheered when he opens the draft.
The NFL: The commissioner is jeered when he opens the draft.

Thanks in big part to snarky New York Jets fans, it’s a tradition unlike any other for Roger Goodell to get booed in the Big Apple. Per the filmmakers, the Bronx cheer for Goodell would have been confusing for international audiences while the movie builds up to “Draft Day” as a momentous climax.

You can read more...

'Draft Day': Separating movie's fiction from NFL facts - NFL - Sporting News

Doubt the draft would ever come to New Orleans with Goodell as commissioner...

I haven't heard it called a documentary yet.

Surprised Lyer didn't point out that the Cap Manager for Cleveland isn't actually pregnant.

Just saw the movie......a little predictable but it was one of the better sports movies I've seen in a long long time. Highly recommend everyone to go see it.
