Re: New Orleans Saints won't exercise fifth-year option on running back Mark Ingram, report says
Probably the best move, there is no way one of our RB's is going to take up 5.2m of the cap unless they really tore it up
this way Ingram has to fight for a contract |
Re: New Orleans Saints won't exercise fifth-year option on running back Mark Ingram, report says
Seems to be a growing tend in this era of out-of-control salaries? Or maybe I just don't pay enough attention to contract stuff, ... but the Lions declined picking up Nick Fairley's option year for much the same reasons ... they want him to make his money the old-fashioned way, they want him to earn it, ;).

first year for the fifth year extension in new CBA- really doesn't seem to be working out too well for the players

Saints let Mark Ingram become FA
Sorry if it's posted I didn't see a thread on it. What I understood is that he was under contract this year and we had the option to pick him up for one more year. So is he a FA now or will he be one next year?

But it's just Mickey doing what he does. Specifically, he'll either let Ingram go if he underperforms, or will let the market set his price and then decide if he wants to pay that cost if Ingram does step it up. Honestly, running backs are now a cheap commodity in today's NFL. So it made little sense to lock Ingram into an expensive 5th year. Cam Jordan on the other hand is in a highly paid glamor position (DE). The $6+ million the Saints locked him in for 2015 is a bargain. SFIAH |
Re: Saints let Mark Ingram become FA
He would be one next year unless we work out a more cap friendly deal
In our team, a running back is never going to earn 5M unless they were put up sproles 2011 type numbers every year Ingram needs to work for his contract and prove last seasons late success wasnt a fluke |
Re: Saints let Mark Ingram become FA
Yeah if we picked up the 5th year option it was worth 5 million; I feel that no running back is worth 5 million a year...
They'll either work out a cap friendlier deal or he will walk at the end of this season, he has to prove that he is worthy of a new deal... |
Re: Saints let Mark Ingram become FA
it gives both the team and mark and out
