The Saints need o-line

I am worried about all this talk about drafting a corner or wide receiver with the twenty-seventh pick. I know there won't be offensive lineman available deserving of the pick. So I want the Saints to trade down into the top of the second round and draft a center/guard. Then use their second pick on corner or wide receiver. With the extra pick we get from the trade down I want a second wide receiver. I think the Saints needs are:
Center/Guard (2)
Wide Receiver (2)
Corner
Tackle
If you can't protect Drew the rest is moot.

Re: The Saints need o-line

If we pick up any O linemen in the upper rnds, its gonna most likely be Marcus Martin. He can play center and guard as well as Lelito. Any other O-linemen will be picked up in the later rnds. I would not be surprised if Saints use a first round on Martin being that they seem to want him and he probably wont make it to our pick in the second round.

Re: The Saints need o-line

Martin is who I like. Like I said I would trade down to about pick 40 and take Martin. It would give us an additional pick probably in third round to take two wide receivers and corner in second and third rounds.

Re: The Saints need o-line

I like Martin too, but 27 is probably too early and he'll be gone when we pick at 58.

Some sort of trade up/down will have to occur for us to get him.

Martin got a late invite to be at the draft. Who ever invited him must suspect he's going in the first round. It would be kinda cruel to invite a guy that you know will just be sitting there for 3 hours.

how do the invites work? Top 50 or something?
I agree that it would suck for that guy who had to sit through an extra day, but sometimes it works out (Aaron Rodgers, anyone?). The flip side is when a guy gets picked and everyone goes 'WTF?', like U. Young, and then they are scrambling for tape

Last I heard was they invited a whopping 30 prospects this year. I'm sure there will be several that will be selected day two, and probably most of them know it.

Prospects attending the 2014 NFL Draft:

Odell Beckham, WR, LSU

Blake Bortles, QB, Central Florida

Teddy Bridgewater, QB, Louisville

Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, S, Alabama

Jadeveon Clowney, DE, South Carolina

Brandin Cooks, WR, Oregon State

Kony Ealy, DE, Missouri

Eric Ebron, TE, North Carolina

Mike Evans, WR, Texas A&M

Kyle Fuller, CB, Virginia Tech

Jimmy Garoppolo, QB, Eastern Illinois

Justin Gilbert, CB, Oklahoma State

Ra'Shede Hageman, DT, Minnesota

Cyrus Kouandjio, OT, Alabama

Cody Latimer, WR, Indiana

Marqise Lee, WR, USC

Taylor Lewan, OT, Michigan

Khalil Mack, LB, Buffalo

Johnny Manziel, QB, Texas A&M

Marcus Martin, C, USC

Jake Matthews, OT, Texas A&M

Jordan Matthews, WR, Vanderbilt

Morgan Moses, OT, Virginia

C.J. Mosley, LB, Alabama

Calvin Pryor, S, Louisville

Greg Robinson, OT, Auburn

Bradley Roby, CB, Ohio State

Ryan Shazier, LB, Ohio State

Jason Verrett, CB, TCU

Sammy Watkins, WR, Clemson

It takes two to tango if we are looking to trade down.

Re: The Saints need o-line

There are some good centers available this year. My preference is Martin. I doubt that he slides far into the second round. We would have to move up if we want him. Some of the later round centers have great potential but I don't know if they are starters on day one.

I agree that we desperately need depth on the O-line and possibly a starter if Lelito isn't ready to take over at center. I anticipate quite a few small school prospects to be drafted by the Saints including at least two maulers for the O-line.

If any of our starters were to go down we don't have depth. So, we absolutely have to find raw talent in the later rounds. Just hope they won't be too raw and can contribute if necessary.

It all starts with the five BIG men up front. If you can't block, can't open holes. You've got problems.

Re: The Saints need o-line

I don't know what they intend to do to address the problem, but I think that Payton was pretty darn embarrassed about the O-line last year. He said all the way back in August that he was worried about the left tackle spot, that he was losing sleep over it -- and it turned out he was exactly right. That can't happen again.

If you can't block then Drew throws many more Ints....

Re: The Saints need o-line

The saints have zero "needs"... There are a couple of small question marks such as LT and C but we have personnel to fill those spots and its very unlikely they will preform at a lower level than those positions preformed last year which left us 11-5 and 1-1 in the Play-offs.

We have "wants", or "would likes"...

One would have a very difficult time convincing me that if we took the field with what we have now we wouldn't be equal to or better than last year considering our additions on Defense and the newly found health on both side of the ball.

I have two daughters 9 and 5 years of age... We are learning the difference between needs and wants. :)

They need lunch, they want something from the mall.

Re: The Saints need o-line

we have needs and OC is the only spot that worries me and drives a pick.

but in the first round? think not. as a matter of fact i think round 4 5 and 6 has some solid players to consider. so panic drafting is not needed

second level of need is back up depth.

so BPA all the way! position means nothing.

with that approach we should get some OL help your looking for. as a matter of fact i can see almost all your wishes being full filled

Re: The Saints need o-line

Saints need a back up left tackle as byrce an marcel are right tackles.only back up left tackle on roster is a 28 year old multi year arena player who has part of one year on the rams roster. An yes a center/guard type player to push letio. To get a left takle will take 91st pick an one of the 5th round be it 167th or 169th for a center/guard O-lineman.

WILL EVERYONE STOP WITH THIS NEEDS BS!!!

We DO NOT draft on NEEDS... we draft BPA. Get over it and enjoy the ride.

Agreed, but I do think need factors in, or at the least non-need (QB, OG, FB, FS, SS, TE, P, LS, DE)

I think if players are rated relatively close, non-need may push a player down a notch over a position where we could use an upgrade.

But for the most part your correct. We enter every draft with needs addressed in free agency allowing us numerous options in every round during the draft.

Re: The Saints need o-line

when a team is cash poor with the cap an you only have 62 players including jimmy who could be a hold out you have to draft need positions as they do not have the money to sign more quality vets to plug roster holes.so YES WE DO DRAFT NEEDS THIS YEAR.

Did Armstead play against any quality pass rushers in his three great games?

WillSaints81 05-07-2014 11:02 PM

Re: The Saints need o-line

Thats the question for me. I think he played better, but was the pass rushing weaker?

I kind of agree we need a center. But we really do need a playmaker.

One play maker makes a target, several make a real weapon.

Re: The Saints need o-line

if we do not have the players to gimmick a defense out of playing us straight up then we do need to retool a bit and if we do then just maybe mark ingram might just shine.
