Some unexpected praise for the Saints' coaching staff

Following a 10-6 loss at home to Carolina -- a defeat that eliminated the slumping Saints from playoff contention -- New Orleans owner Tom Benson called head coach Jim Haslett and the team's entire coaching staff to his private suite in the Superdome.

Most Saints assistants assumed they were about to be reemed out for a second consecutive late-season slide. New Orleans started 6-1 this year, but dropped six of its final nine games to finish 9-7. Particularly glaring was New Orleans' last three games, when the Saints lost to three teams with losing records: Minnesota, Cincinnati and Carolina.

Instead, Benson told Haslett and his staff: "You guys did a hell of a job all year. Go get them next year."
