Date for Graham hearing set

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/saints-...4071--nfl.html

I wonder if there is any chance that negotiations will continue until that date- June 17, or are they at a standstill?

Anyone have any insight as to how these things play out in the locker room? Do the guys get resentful when people hold out for more money? Or are they more pragmatic about the whole process?

The players respect it's business and it doesn't effect the locker room for the most part. They all know it could be them next year.

Is say both parties are working harder to get something done before the date. Neither want to chance a decision not in their favor if they can meet in the middle.

oh the drama is killing me will the union get a new designation for TE. team now will have TE(a) and a TE(b) types to pay. he is not a TE but he is not a WR. so what is he?

Re: Date for Graham hearing set

What I want to know is, if it is ruled that he is a WR, then will we be given the option to rescind our franchise tag due to the fact that we do not want to pay him that much. I highly doubt that it gets that far, but I'm interested in how it would work if it did.

Re: Date for Graham hearing set

When there's a $5 mil difference, I think anyone in their right mind would challenge this. Having said that, there are other TEs who split out more than he does, and no WRs who lineup tight 33% of the time. He's a TE. That's my 2¢.

If he win this you will have rb(Sproles type) claiming to be wr and guards claiming left tackles pay

The present CBA stands for 10 years and is not a living document, so dont expect any re-defining until 2021. They will rule on Jimmy Graham but not changes to the CBA, that has to be collectively agreed upon.

Evidence:
1. In spite of how poorly the CBA is written, it was not changed when Goodell was smacked down by a judge for Bountygate.
2. In 2011 they failed to close the double dip loophole, they cant readdress it until 2021.:bng:

Almost half the players in the league are 'hybrids'.
Defenders play multiple roles, and just look at special teams. Will Morstead get a special tag bc he also kicks off? Will our new outside gunner get a special designation for that role? What if we change holders, does he forfeit that part of the salary?
It's ridiculous.

It's ridiculous.

The CBA defines positions, not roles. Hybrid doesn't matter, and the CBA has 8 years left before it can be re-written. They didnt fix it in 2011 and they are not going to fix it now.

CBA Defined positions for Franchise Tags: Page 48 Article 10 Section 7
Section 7. Salary Information:
(a) No later than February 1 of each League Year during the term of this Agreement, the NFL shall compile and disclose to the NFLPA a list of each of the five and ten largest Prior Year Salaries for players at the following positions which shall be utilized for calculating the average Prior Year Salaries of players at the positions of Fran-chise Players and Transition Players: Quarterback, Running Back, Wide Receiver, Tight End, Offensive Line, Defensive End, Interior Defensive Line, Linebacker, Cornerback, Safety, and Kicker/Punter.

That's it, 11 positions, roles do not apply. Long snapper, punt returner, gunner, slot receiver... Notice there is only Offensive Line, there is no Tackle, Guard, Center designation.

If the NFL keeps editing to cover each and every exception then this thing turns into the Federal tax Code, a 73,954 page document that is just a list of exceptions so complicated and contradictory that no 1 person fully understands all of it. The rule is what it is, make the teams conform to it, not the rule to the teams.

It was rumored we offered 10/year and they said no way.

Granted it was the infamous "sources say" statement so take it with a grain of salt.

But if true, we've already tried to meet in the middle. Sexton is going full Monte on this one and with our history of grossly overpaying, he's gonna get his 12/year.

Re: Date for Graham hearing set

If he gets 12 a year I hope its elsewhere and I don't care who pays it. The sad issue will be we wont get any value in compensation.

Re: Date for Graham hearing set

12 million dollar rumor? dam that aint a cheap rumor. i guess jimmy don't want to be a saint.

if we did offer him ten then tag him no matter what. then announce he is up for trade.

at his height and the rules about tackling he wont last long till he is out for a season with a knee. he is already showing wear and tear the past two years. these tall guys are great but i think they all will have a short shelf with the new rules in place.

they would last longer if the NFL let them get the crap knocked out of them instead of babying them. under cutting a receiver is under cutting their careers

i would take a 1 and a 2

Well like I said its a rumor.

Remember it was "rumored" that Brees wanted 20/year and we ended up... oh wait, that is what he got!

Re: Date for Graham hearing set

I think it's gonna be a lot like the Brees deal. A decision is gonna come down, and then a deal is going to get done within a few short days after that, like ridiculously fast. Remember how fast the Brees contract followed on the heels of the tag decision? I think they're both just waiting to see what the aribiter says. You have to, in that situation. It would not surprise me one bit if the compromise contract was already hammered out 90% of the way by both parties, and it is just sitting in somebody's drawer right now, waiting to be pulled out, the last details finalized, and signed.

My concern is he may not be as important to the team as Brees. Last year, the guy got hemmed up at the line with aggressive corners and he was not open. It's possible he could reemerge as a serious threat with additions of Colemen and Cooks, but I still think we can get the job done with a normal pay tight end who can actually block at the position.

Yeah. That's qb money and much as I love him I'm not paying the man qb money. Have a nice time in Cleveland is what I think.

Graham is simply the new Tight end mold. That position is trending to players like him, much like when Groch started, pretty soon all tight ends will perform like Graham (except probably block better).

The guy that touches the ball every snap, makes every pass and handoff along with changing the future at the line is relevant and worth the drama..
A TE is just not worth it.

I am a Jg fan, but if he wins I am going to be pissed at the Nfl. His agent is just a worm

This is stupid. If they make an exception for him then they have to make an exception for a bunch of ****. Business or not, this is making me resent him and his slimy agent.

Not me. I have always loved Graham and always will. My love is not that fleeting.
