Playing football chess
In 2005 the Saints were a 3-13 football team and in the football intensive care unit. The fortune of the organization changed the day the Saints hired Sean Payton as coach, the front-office maneuvering by general manager Mickey Loomis and owner Tom Benson to sign quarterback Drew Brees and the team hit football gold when USC running back Reggie Bush was passed over by the Houston Texans and ended up in the Black and Gold.
