A look at projected rookie contracts for the New Orleans Saints' 2014 NFL draft class
The never-ending wrestling with the salary cap for the New Orleans Saints this offseason paid off, as the team would hold at least a $2 million cap cushion if accounting for the projected contracts for the Saints' 2014 NFL draft picks. New Orleans sat at $3,450,141 under the cap as of Thursday morning, according to the NFLPA website. If you include the projected contracts of the draft picks, the Saints' draft class would only cost the team about $1.4 million with only the top 51 contracts being accounted for right now. It appears, gauging by Spotrac's figures, only the contracts for first-round wide receiver Brandin Cooks, second-round cornerback Stanley Jean-Baptiste and fourth-round linebacker Khairi Fortt would count toward the Saints' top-51 list. Here's a look at the projected contracts for the Saints 2014 draft class, via Spotrac: WR Brandin Cooks $8,383,452 (total four-year contract) $4,417,056 (signing bonus) $4,837,056 (2014 cash value) $1,524,264 (2014 cap hit) CB Stanley Jean-Baptiste $3,587,060 $968,240 $1,388,240 $650,000 (2014 cap hit) LB Khairi Fortt $2,688,940 $412,560 $832,560 $523,140 (2014 cap hit) S Vinnie Sunseri $2,413,450 $176,500 $596,500 $464,125 (2014 cap hit) LB Ronald Powell $2,403,518 $168,860 $588,860 $462,215 (2014 cap hit) T Tavon Rooks $2,337,323 $97,432 $517,432 $444,358 (2014 cap hit) A look at projected rookie contracts for the New Orleans Saints' 2014 NFL draft class | NOLA.com Want to avoid cap issues? second round and on is a great way to do it some actual numbers On Friday, the day their rookie minicamp began, the Saints signed three of the six players they acquired in the draft: strong safety Vinnie Sunseri, outside linebacker Ronald Powell and tackle Tavon Rooks. All three signed standard four-year rookie deals that will pay them base salaries of $420,000 (2014), $495,000 (2015), $570,000 (2016) and $645,000 (2017) along with a signing bonus based on where they were picked. http://blackandgold.com/saints/65977...contracts.html pretty close. i love this CBA for the rookies |

Now we can spend the money where we are supposed to. On veterans who have earned it.
