Rep. Chris Broadwater, R-Hammond, said he "is not planning to move the bill further," in hopes that the parties can come to a compromise regarding the formula used to calculate workers compensation benefits, he told NOLA.com and the Times-Picayune. The Bill was backed by the New Orleans Saints organization but opposed by the NFL players union and several Saints players.
Rep. Broadwater pulled the bill after hearing Saints players planned to show up at the Louisiana State Capital to oppose the legislation. Broadwater told the Times-Picayune that he would prefer the Saints and the players to reach an agreement on their own rather than "the legislature having to impose its will on both parities." "My feeling is that both sides were trying to work on finding a solution in waning days in session, and rather than with clock ticking, the best thing to do for everyone was for me to just defer the bill right now and trust that the two parities will continue to work together to find a solution," he said. Dialogue between the parities has already started in effort to reach a compromise. Though efforts failed so far, Broadwater said he is willing to work personally with both sides to achieve common ground. pressure from the NFL and the Union. 5 to 1 tax revenues were used as leverage against the state.
My impression of the backdoor conversation. If the saints leave think of all the money you will lose. now that your thinking about that number we want our cut of the profits to stay here. Oh yeah by the way do not spend all that money because we will be looking for a new stadium down the road. Also we thought about the tax payers having a say in how we are changing the game and we do not think they are smart enough to understand the changes and much less effect us in any way. We millionaires need your money and you need to start thanking us with money every chance you get. now stop wasting our time and write the check oh well here we go again. |
