Rob Ryan has not gotten enough credit for the defensive turnaround he created for the Saints in 2013. Under Ryan’s supervision the Saints reversed their fortunes in many categories and on-field performances without much more than a change of coordinator and shuffling of personnel. One of the areas that the Saints most visibly improved was in tackling. Ryan took the Saints back to basics and addressed what playing defense is all about: hitting the offense, and hitting them hard enough to stop them. Hitting them behind the line of scrimmage. Hitting them and bringing them down. Playing real, hard-nosed defense.

Things to look forward to......the return of kenny vaccaro and his freakishly violent tackling!!

there is one thing i am hoping for and that is a better 3 man rush which does result from DL depth a great bit. our second unit is pretty good for the most part. It is that last 1 or 2 guys that need to be upgraded or a few second unit players get bumped down either way our we look gassed too many times last year.

I'm concerned about the year of film teams have on us. Hopefully we have new plays unveiled that Ryan didnt call last year.

Rugby Saint II

Ryan had to play conservatively last season to mask his lack of talent. This year things will change. I expect more blitzes and multiple look fronts.
