NFL History: Saints are one and done

I responded to the sweep thread and once again went on a tyrant rampage i wonder how ya'll feel about this

i was trying to remember the teams that did sweep the NFC South.

But all I could not get past this

No NFC South team has successfully defended its division championship since the division's creation

I want that crowns back to back to back ...... Then and only then can we stand on being a very good team of a decade.

Now add in some tiles in there then i would dare to say dynasty and saints in the same breath.

IMO that's is what it is all about now.

Dynasty

Till then we are just another team that got the super bowl monkey off our backs but were never good enough to make it to the dance again. that is a long list well in terms of super bowl history

The realization where we are as a team in the history of the NFL needs to be clarified.

- They were good but were not elite.

- They got the monkey off there back but were never able to return

- 1 and done

Face it teams with multiple losses in the super bowl are remembered in NFL history more than than the "1 and done" are

People at times think i am harsh on the saints and I have to agree at times I am a horses butt about thing and impose gag orders on myself. But there is a reason i am never happy. For the first time in our history we have a shot at maybe using that word with ours.

Dynasty

We have to take that next step the window is closing and the run needs to start now. I want to look at the 49ers fans say we had our too. yep some old NFC West wounds never heal. Or for matter of fact any fans who teams can wear that badge of Dynasty or team of the decade.

I want that level of respect!

Anything less will not do!

Well if you're only talking over a period of time, then yeah, we obviously aren't a dynasty. But that doesn't mean that team that won it all was chopped liver. That team WAS elite, in my opinion. Not just some crappy team that got hot late like the Giants. I understand where you're coming from and being considered among the great franchises would be nice, but I'm less concerned about that as I am at just being a good team right now. And though we have not been back to the super bowl, at least we didn't disappear like the bucs and rams. We're still getting to the playoffs pretty consistently.

If I had a nickel for every time I heard that, the NFL would fine and suspend me.

Bradshaw, Harris, Swan, Stallworth, Defense, Knoll

Aikman, Smith, Irvin,

Staubach, Dorsett, White, Lily, Landry

Montana, Rice, Lott, Walsh

Bellicheck, Brady, and whoever

The 70's Steeler's had more talent than any other team in football history. We are missing a few pieces to be a Dynasty and Brees, the cornerstone, is getting older, so it has to come in the next few years or we will be in the dreaded "rebuilding" stage.

Brees can be listed along with Bradshaw, Aikman etc., he is that good. A running game, better defense, and some balls bouncing our way and we are Superbowl Champs again. With free agency, I don't know if there will be anymore "Dynasty's".

I am sure I heard a couple of weeks back on NFL Radio that no NFC South team has ever swept all six divisional games.

Yeah let's just go out and get a ring this year....we'll worry about being a dynasty some other time.

Re: NFL History: Saints are one and done

Meh.

How many teams in the league are clearly better than the Saints over the last 5 years? Not many, if ANY. We're clearly the top dog in our division, looking at the big picture. Throw out the bounty year, we're basically a 12-win team every season. The league's record books are riddled with the names of Saints players.

Dynasty talk is unwarranted, there's no such thing as a dynasty anymore. We're one of the big dog franchises now. As fans we've got too much to be proud of and too much to look forward too, to be worried about this stuff.

complacency is not an option. we have been good but we will be forgotten in the annals if history just like ever other good team of the past.

dynasty or bust must be our creed

Re: NFL History: Saints are one and done

Dallas was a dynasty in the 90s, and probably could have been in the 70s as well if not for Pittsburgh. Yet, when their fans mention "5 Super Bowls", it honestly sounds pathetic, given how irrelevant they've been (from a playoff standpoint, not a marketing standpoint) over the last 18 years or so.

Reason I bring that up? Because bringing up how good your team WAS (and believe me, this lil Saints joyride we're on won't last forever) gets very old in the eyes of other fans. It's all about the here and the now. Instead of worrying about what the Saints need to do to be "remembered", try soaking in what we're enjoying with Brees, Payton, etc.
