Re: Jimmy Graham......
It only makes sense if you want to lessen the Saints chances of winning another championship. To hell with cap space when cap space will be skyrocketing over the next few years. Player salary shouldn't mean anything to a fan. Get over it.

Re: Jimmy Graham......
This is what irks me about the situation. Graham gets an fair offer to be the highest paid tight end. He turns it down. Fair enough. We let go several key players to make cap space to sign others to contracts, his being one of them. He makes posts that he is shocked and disappointed the Saints would make such moves. Then he files a grievance that would entitle him to be paid even more. Again fair enough. His grievance is denied and he has a disclosed amount of time to appeal. Now he waits until the day before the deadline to contest. Doesn't leave much time for further negotiations. Anyway I am fine either way. He will play and weather or not he signs or takes the tag money he has motivation to play to win. He takes the tag money and he will be trying to make a case for a bigger salary the next season.

Re: Jimmy Graham......
I don't blame him for trying to maximize his earning potential and I don't blame the saints to try and minimize the same, that is the whole point of these negotiations. At the end of the day the saints will be a better team with Jimmy on the team even if that means he's becoming the highest paid tight end and some more. Both parties obviously know that and at the end of the day he'll still make less than what some other offensive weapons are making on the other teams even though they are less productive than him. Nobody brings up how he has been underpaid for these last few years and never said a word about it. The saints FO has reached a point where they address the team needs better than anybody else from both a personnel standpoint and a financial standpoint. We will be fine. Even if it's 11 plus mil a year with the cap going up and contracts getting ever more expensive each year, 2 years into his long term contract it will feel like a steal. We all cried about Drew taking all that money on his contract, now when u see what kap has made on his contract and what Matt Ryan and Tony Romo make I actually feel thankful. Who knows if hybrid players like Graham start commanding 14 mill plus in the next couple of years.

You know, I've been in some disagreements on here plenty of times. I'm used to that. But you can't get over the fact that I don't see it your way.
Because I have a problem with something the Saints are doing that makes me less of a fan? Does being a fan mean that I'm supposed to like everything they do? I don't like everything that certain people in my family do, but I sure as hell still love them. But this isn't even family. It's a sport, a team, an organization that hasn't personally done anything for me. So I pull like crazy for them, and yell during games and all that foolishness that we as fans get caught up in. But sometimes I don't agree with what they're doing. It isn't very often, but it happens. You say they know more than me, and I'm sure they know more than both of us. That doesn't make them immune to mistakes. We stumbled around for some time between Payton's first year here and the superbowl season. We gave a huge contract to Jason David, an enormous contract for an average, at best, Will Smith, a pretty sizable contract to a terrible Roman Harper. It took a lot of work and a little luck (Darren Sharper) to get that defense turned around enough to make a run. And then we went right back into sucking on defense. It had a lot to do with the money tied into aging, overrated players who were making way too much money. Now we're turning it back around, but I want to be able to keep this team together. And let's not forget that Loomis was here long before Payton. And before Payton got here, we were atrocious. So you can get right off of that high horse you're standing on and quit telling me that these guys know everything. I'm not up here declaring myself the smartest person in the universe. I'm giving an honest opinion, which is not in any way the same thing as denouncing my fandom. You are not going to tell me who I should be a fan of. I will pull for whom, and say whatever I damn well please. You can take your self righteous, egotistical comments elsewhere. |
If I had a nickel for every time I heard that, the NFL would fine and suspend me.
