New Orleans Saints tight end Benjamin Watson was trying to be a voice of reason when describing the potential of rookie receiver Brandin Cooks.
Watson said there are too many variables when it comes to making any kind of NFL Rookie of the Year predictions -- things such as injuries, grasping the offense and adjusting to NFL defenses. But like everyone else on the practice field when Cooks first showed up this summer, Watson couldn't help but be taken aback by what he saw from the 5-foot-10, 189-pound speedster out of Oregon State. "When you see a guy catch a pass and you see his first two steps look like he's about to run a 40-yard dash, you know that the guy is quick and fast. And when you get the ball to him and he learns what to do, there might be problems [for opposing defenses]," Watson said. "And that's what we all saw from the first pass he caught. "Everybody looked at each other like, 'Wow, this kid is definitely at a different speed.'" Read more: New Orleans Saints WR Brandin Cooks on fast track to Rookie of Year - ESPN |

Re: Saints' Cooks on fast track to rookie of year
As long as he's not hung out over the middle to often he should be exciting to watch. Man I hope he is worth a 1st and 3rd.

I think we all need to slow down on Mr Cooks. He hasn't even played a down in the NFL. Relax.

Though he has not played a snap in the NFL yet, it says alot when veteran players are comparing him to a list of explosive players. Veterans have been around long enough to recognize talent when they see it, just look at vacarro. They were high on him when he was drafted too. All I can say is, good luck covering Colston, Stills, Graham, Toon, Tanner, and Cooks.

Re: Saints' Cooks on fast track to rookie of year
I've been saying rookie of the year for this kid. I believe he'll put up numbers comparable to Julio Jones. Of course I'm factoring in greatly who's throwing him the football. Brees has never had a true #1 like this. He's a legit speedster and deep threat who is also a totally refined route runner with good hands. Hell he caught 120 balls last year. The Saints offense is gonna explode like the Pats did when Brady got Moss.

we haven't even seen how we will use him in the offense
Sprouls was fantastic until teams figured out when those dump screens were coming, even then he'd break some I am psyched to see his rookie season Stills should be great too |

I look for Stills to catch fire if our O-line woes are fixed. It all is going to depend on the big boys in the trenches do their jobs!!

Re: Saints' Cooks on fast track to rookie of year
All these paper predictions before even training camp starts scares me.
"When you see a guy catch a pass and you see his first two steps look like he's about to run a 40-yard dash" You also see potential for hammy problems. |
