Not only Hot in Heeeerrreeee
There's no doubt that Jim Haslett now sits on the hottest seat in the NFL, however I don't think the Big Uneasy is the only place where there is discontent. In fact, there are still a lot of other places where coaches have got to be feeling the heat.
Holmgren and Seattle is looking an awful lot like Haslett and he Saints. Underachieving offense, they're still not there on defense, lots of talent but they can't take the next step. I think it may be time for Mike to go in Seattle. Mike Tice and the Vikings are looking at their second straight collapse a la the '01 and '02 Saints. There's another team that is explosive on O, bad on D, and that blows out of the gates only to blow up mid-year. Tice's days may be numbered, and I doubt he's the answer there. Shannahan and the Broncos will probably end up on the outside looking in again. Yet another Mike that has probably worn out his welcome - while he may not been fired soon, I think he's effectively done in Denver. Of course, there are many others. Ericson ain't exactly looking good in SF. Martz and the Rams have fallen hard and aren't getting up as expected. Parcell's Cowboys are a let down, and while all of the NFC east coaches (Coughlin and Gibbs) that aren't winning are too new to dump, they must be feeling the heat. Gruden isn't the miracle man in TB that everyone thought he was. Vermeil and the Chiefs are questionable. Fisher's days look to be numbered in Ten. I think that org just needs to make a new start. The J-E-T-S, Jets, Jets, Jets are so-so, though I would bet Herm's job is secure right now. There are questions in Buffalo... I bet if Indy can't take the next step the questions about Dungy being able to take a team to the Super Bowl will start coming up more and more again. Why do I bring this up? I think it just goes to show the power and importance of coaching. I hope the Saints do the right thing... for once. |
