Roman Harper:
"There's no way in the world I'd be excited about training camp if I was still in New Orleans," Harper said. "But here (in Carolina) it's different.

Why? He was a good and loyal player for us and helped us win a Superbowl.

There is a reason the Saints let him go. It's the same reason Brees probably can't wait to throw against his coverage.

Ill still remember Vernon Davis dominating him in the playoffs a few years ago, and our first game against the Packers that one year. Dude was nice, friendly, heck he even follows me on twitter for some reason. But I cant wait until he lines up against Graham. Gonna be a 150 2td game for Jimmy.

That was Malcolm Jenkins that vernon Davis beat all day

First one for a 50 yard TD, second one was the long gain that set up the niners winning score

Harper had his ups and downs but he was vital to our Superbowl win, people tend to forget that and just assumed that if Vilma or anyone missed a tackle - it was automatically Roman harpers fault

Re: I'm so glad this dude's gone

If your talking about on field... Yes he was a step slow.... But I don't doubt that he wanted to be here.... and if he was weighing options here vs Carolina and the money was the same he would have chosen us... That wasn't the case, so he had to move on to continue his career. I wish him the best because I know he still loves this team... Harpers loyalty to us shouldn't be in question.

Absolutely 100% true. Its amazing how many people blame Harper for plays he had nothing to do with.

I fully expect someone to blame Roman Harper this year when Kenny Vaccaro blows a coverage.

Cuz if he easnt excited about being a Saint anymore, then we don't need guys like that on the team.

If he feels that way - screw him and the horse he rode out of town on. And while we are at it. Screw Carolina as well.

Re: I'm so glad this dude's gone

I understand where he's coming from.

Just listening to our own players, with the weather they were losing 10+ pounds per practice sweating and your body doesn't recuperate as fast with the humidity.

Why do you think Payton moved camp to West Virginia where the temperature is in the high 70's?

I always likes Harper, still do, only time I want like him is when we take the field against Carolina.

Re: I'm so glad this dude's gone

What's he supposed to say? He gets too much hate on this forum. I do admit I think Bree's will exploit him if he starts against us. I remember Seattle attacking him ruthlessly in the Beastmode game. But he did help us win a SuperBowl and he was one of the teams best tacklers for years.

Danno 07-26-2014 11:16 AM

Re: I'm so glad this dude's gone

Yeah, he should have said he wishes he was still in New Orleans.

Are you guys serious? Really?

We cut him and he found a team that wants him.

Grow up dudes.

He was probably referring to the backstabbing fans we have in New Orleans.;)

Would you be excited coming to N.O. camp if you were a backup after starting for 6 years?

I think he bets training camp in Charlotte won't be as tough because of the climate. I got news for him, it's just as hot and humid there is it is here.

Ex Saints players seem to have a history of having a career game when they come to play us.

New team, new contract, new outlook. Of course he's excited, until he tries to cover our offense...

Because if he was in the Saints training camp he would be working with the 3rd groups. In Carolina his a starter.

Roman was a good saint. his game was out dated. put him back when the secondary was allowed to cover i could see a few more pro bowls for him.

Say what you want but our run D was drastically improved last year when he was in.

Re: I'm so glad this dude's gone

Harper just purchased a Condo at Julia place (that's in New Orleans, FYI). I highly doubt he'd have done that if he had bad blood here. He was probably talking about the miserable heat and humidity. Plus, as mentioned before, wtf do you want him to say? He's just doing his job, and making the most out of his situation.

I'll miss Harper. He could be a liability at times, but he had some great moments here, & helped us win a Superbowl!

You mean like when they wore leather helmets and their sports cards poses looked liked they were trying not to step in something?!?

I don't see anything wrong with what he said.
Ofcourse he's excited for something new. He didn't say he disliked his former team... he's a grown man and he's moved on to other work.

Good Luck to him

I never said anything about his performance on the field. I thought he did ok as a saint. But if he's gonna make a negative comment about being more excited to be in panther's training camp than saints', then I'm glad he's gone. Has nothing to do with "growing up". Some people here need to chill out lol

Re: I'm so glad this dude's gone

I think he is just saying that being with the Saints again would be more like business as usual. With the Panthers it's a little different. Change can be a good thing for people. I don't think he is saying anything that reflects too badly on the Saints.

I thought Harper got a lot of unfair blame the last couple of years. It's not his fault we haven't had a decent free safety in a while until Byrd. I think he got put in situations where he looked bad because he was expected to do more than he was capable of. In Ryan's defense he played well.

You screw horses? Man that's twisted :D :D :D
I screwed a girl named Carolina once, that seems like a better idea ;-)

And to be OT
Harper was good for us when used right. He had a hard time covering anybody but was great around the LOS and that year when he really rushed the passer, wow.

Well that made Harper and what we were doing predictable; and predictable in the NFL is useless...

Some of my friends here do not appreciate my negative opinion of Harper's liabilities - that's okay as we've got our likes and dislikes among the team...

And to be fair Harper was paired with an equally inept safety in Jenkins which made them the biggest liability to the defense and so the team, and finally garnered notorious historical context; exacerbating things was the "faux pas pass rush" led by Will Smith...

Wish him a good life, but not success as a division rival...

But now we get to appreciate real Safety play which should be even better with Byrd in the rotation and Hicks now complementing a surging Jordan...

Hopefully Ronald Powell can emerge healthy and fulfill his promise...

And the possibilities of the cornerback corps really makes smile and ponder those sports analysis broadcasts by early October whereby the talking heads take notice with one of their "Where Did They Come From?!?" stories that as Saints fans "we just stare and wonder" as my good friend says...

I don't really care. Harper's play was bad for at least the last 3 years and I for one am glad he's gone. Only a fool trips on what's past. Ain't that right Mr. Lewis?
