I've often heard fans talk about how talented the Saints are. How we waste talent year after year and never live up to expectations.
Well, I'm not one that's buying into that theory. I think we are severely lacking in talent. And I also believe that until we get more talent at certain positions, we won't ever get anywhere. Great players make great coaches. Just ask Bill Parcells, Mike Holmgren, or Shanahan. With that said, our problems run deeper. Haslett and co. deserve to get fired. Their lack of imagination and inabilility to come up with an effective game plan are only 2 reasons they should get run out of the Big Easy. I'm going to hold off evaluating any induvidual players until another coach is brought in. It's been a bad year for every Saints player. Just look at how awful Decue has looked this year. Well, there's always next year, Saints fans. |

What I do know is it\'s not likely to come until another coach arrives. Haslett has screwed up this team in a lot of ways. Our offensive line is just terrible. Our QB has about 2 seconds before defensive players are just all over him. And this was suppose to be a strength of this team. I know a lot of folks want to blame Brooks (surprise surprise) but this offensive line is just flat out sucks. Last year at least they could run block, but this year they suck at that. If I had to point to one area that is the biggest problem, the offensive line would be it. |

Oh Billy I disagree completely. There are a few holes but if you give this team to Belichik and company and 10-6 or better is a given.
There must be a reason why productive players come here and regress (Sloan/Gandy/Riley/Conwell among others) and other players leave here and seem to play better on their new teams than they did here (Williams/Knight/Hawthorne/Gravy/Hand/Clemons/Mitchell). It happens too often to be a coincidence. There must be a reason why draft picks never improve year to year on this team. Some seem to stay the same skill level as the day they arrive...(Donte/Deuce/Allen/Bentley/Hodge/Mitchell/K. Smith/Holland/Howard). There must be a reason Brooks/Pathon/Ruff/Boo/Jacox/Folau/Bellamy/Thomas all play the same as when they got here or got worse. I think its 100% a development problem, which points directly at the coaches. If this team were severely lacking talent, then you\'d have to say Haz/Venturi/McCarthy have done an outstanding job over the last 3 or 4 years just to keep them around .500. My worst fear is that Benson may feel exactly like you and decide to keep our current staff and just \"tweak\" the roster yet again. Four years of tweaking the roster hasn\'t helped. I think perhaps its not the roster that needs tweaking now. |

Danno --
You may be right. But I still feel we are lacking talent in certain positions. I don\'t think any coach is going to coach up our offensive line or our linebackers. We need talent there and I think until we get it, those are going to be weak areas. Wayne Gandy isn\'t a guy who can hold his own at LT. He might could do well at RT. And do you honestly believe our linebackers can be coached up? Also, I don\'t think Brian Young is the answer at DT. So, while we have talent at a lot of the skilled positions, we are lacking in other areas. But that\'s still Haslett\'s fault. Great players make great coaches. I\'ve been preaching that for years. Bill Parcells can\'t get his team to the playoffs. And I know a couple of super bowl coaches that haven\'t done anything for the last 3 or 4 years. And they won\'t ever do anything until they get more talent in the right places. Coaching is very important, but it takes much more than coaching. |

Newsflash! Panthers started 1-7, have 14 players in IR, their starting RB was their 6th RB at the start of the season, they lost their #1 WR for the season, they have 3 new bodies in the o-line, lost one of their DT\'s, the QB is playing with a fractured thumb, they are playing a rookie WR and a rookie DB... yet, they have won 4 straight, and this Sunday will be 5 straight after they dispatch the Rams... you tell me the Panthers right now have talent at all positions... no they don\'t... but they have one heck of a coach... ...and Parcells made the playoffs last year, and at least has a chance of making the playoffs this year, with what? Testaverde? A rookie TE? A rookie RB? Keyshawn? ... I said it before, and I\'\'ll set it again.. you can bring Marinos, Taylors, Paytons, Rices, Deions, to this team, and they will NOT win... |

The Problems are many.
For my last post of the day, let me say this:
I think MANY of our problems are directly related to coaching. And I\'m not just tallking about X\'s and O\'s. Haslett just can\'t find the right buttons to push. Then there\'s the schemes that are being used. They are clearly not working. That\'s also a big part of it. Then there\'s player evaluation. They haven\'t done bad in the draft. But, free-agency has been a joke. We\'ve all seen the players they\'ve signed and the one\'s they never went after at all. All this has added up to what we have today. Which is a pathetic 4-8 team. What I don\'t get are SOME fans who like to point to ONE area and over-look other areas that are just as important. This is the ultimate team game. Not only does it take a 53-man roster. It takes a good owner, good GM, good scouts, coaching. But, you know what, sometimes that\'s still not enough. Injuries can bring it all crashing down. That\'s what makes the Patriots so amazing. I never thought I\'d see another dynasty. My hat is off to the Pats. |
